2 mechanical questions about my cts

Hello! Very nice to be here. My cts is 2004 3.2l and few weeks ago I started to hear a 'wooooo' hamming sound from the back. It appears only in low speed drive (30-40 kmh). At the shop they suggested to replace the deferential fluid. I tried it twice letting the car driving 3000-4000 km in between but it still stays. Now the shop says that the rear axel need to be replaced (!!) is that true? Does someone familiar with this symptom? Please help 'cause rear axel is E-xpensive.
The second issue – I want to install the k&n 57-3040 air intake. Do you recommend it?
Thanks a lot,
shai

K&N filter .. I use it on all my cars ! I dont know if that model K&N is the one yours needs.

the issues with CTS differentials is not rare.
but usually we see the AWD models having that.

can it happen after 32000 miles? does this sound surely means that the rear axel must be replaced?

thanks for the replys

check for recalls, and also GM service for warranty or even off warranty repairs.

There was a recall on CTS rear differentials pinion seals leaking possibly leading to failure. You can check nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls and enter your car info. But it sounds as if you may not be in the US. And I'm guessing its out of warranty. At which point I'd get a second and third opinion and look for a wrecked CTS in an auto salvage yard to get the differential from.
