the 1993 Allante cash for clunkers program
We do know that some of our treasures qualify fotr the program. $4500 might be what some of our early drivers would bring on the open (say depressed) mkt. Any body inquired? anybody inquired if any parts can be removed prior to turn in?

This is a great incentive to swap good parts for not-in-mint condition parts prior to turning the car in - but only if you want to buy a new car. ============ http://www.cashforclunkersfacts.com/...ds/over-18.jpg "A 1984 or newer vehicle that has been insured and registered to you for the past year and gets a "combined" 18 miles to the gallon or less, you can qualify. The car must also be drivable If you trade it in for a car that gets an additional four more miles per gallon or more, your reward is a $3,500 voucher, which can be used toward purchasing a new car. If you switch to a vehicle that gets 10 miles-per-gallon or more in fuel efficiency, then the government gives you $4,500." "Chrysler - on Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep models. The automaker will offer consumers an additional $3,500 to $4,500 rebate or zero percent financing on top of the money they will already receive from the federal government. " You have to have owned the car for a year and show continuous registration and insurance for the clunker you trade in. Sp any recent car purchases, trades or transfers would not qualify. the NHTSA is saying that the TITLE has to be clear of any liens. You can buy any new car: foreign or domestic. New vehicles of model year 2008 or later qualify. In most states that also means that the car was never previously titled. The car will be sent to the salvage yard. Some parts may be kept but the engine and drive-train must be destroyed. Specifically the engine will be injected with a liquid glass solution to permanently disable the engine and it will be the responsibility of the dealer to make sure this is done to the engine. http://www.cars.gov is the official website. . |
Aint that great? The money for the program seems to have run out ! Congress allocated $1Billion and they need $2B more to keep it going. . |

A big point is that this is a list by edmunds, compiled by their database, using MARKET PRICES .. avg national prices and the '93 allante hit the list ! one has to wonder how many 1993 Allante cars are going to face the liquid glass injection ...
on the other hand, I think my 1992 just got more valuable ... ------------ the official fuel economy list: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm . A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year.
A vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons a year. So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce an individual’s gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year. They claim the program turned 700,000 vehicles so that's 224 million gallons saved per year. That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil. 5 million barrels is about 5 hours worth of US consumption. 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs about $350 million dollars. So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million. Which means they spent $8.57 for every dollar saved. You must drive that new car 9 years for the taxpayers to break even . |
Hey, it is the government, what do you expect?
