Rebuild cost on a 429 for 66 Deville

Curious to what the approximate cost is to full rebuild a 429 Cadillac motor on a 66 coupe Deville? I am wanting to restore the body, paint and engine on one and need to know approximate numbers I'm looking at so I know how much I can spend on one.

Thanks in advance!

I'd expect something like 6K for an engine job; but you'd need to verify parts availability BEFORE you commit. Wouldn't surprise me to discover that pistons are either total junk or wildly expensive, with no middle ground. It's REALLY COMMON for "stock" replacement pistons to be made too-short (intentionally) which KILLS power, economy, performance, and leads to detonation due to lack of combustion chamber turbulence. VERIFY COMPRESSION HEIGHT (Not compression ratio) of the pistons before you buy them.

Same deal with bearing undersizes. The larger undersizes may not be available any more.

Compare head gasket thickness to the original gaskets. What often happens is that they sell you short pistons and thick head gaskets, and the engine is a DOG.
