500 swap in 88 Brougham w/stock tranny?
 

My Brougham has a 307 (smokes like a chimney but refuses to die). I heard that a 500bb would bolt up to the tranny that is already in the car. True? I have 2 500 blocks and cranks and 1 set of 120cc heads and they are burning a hole in my pocket. My smoking Brougham seems to be an excellent excuse to go ahead and have one of these 500s built. I also have 2 400 trannys but I want to use the overdrive tranny already in the car. Can it be done?

Yes, the 500 will fit, you will need the 425 / 368(6.0L) mounts and brackets, and possibly oil pan for 77-84 big block. The stock 200R4 will not survive the torque of the 500. In stock form 442 / Hurst Olds or Grand National trans would have the highest survival rate,but it's not very easy to find real one. It is very easy to get ripped off on 'Plain Jane' being sold as something it's not. It would be better to get a purpose built one designed to handle the 500.

There's a local tranny shop here that has done a tranny for me before and I trust them. I plan on having it built strongerbefore I punish it with the 500. After doing a little more research I've found that people have had good results with this combo when corners aren't cut. I have a 1970 Sedan Deville with some mounts I can rob off it before it goes. Any sources for accessory brackets? Also, does anyone make a serpentine system for the 500? Your input is greatly appreciated.

I forgot I have brackets already but would still like a serpentine system.
