429,472,& 500 cad engines are front -Eldo, towards the front everything else. Late 70s 425 and 6.0l(368) should be rear sump.

Balancer - Take pulley off, Cadillac did not used bolt to retain balancer till late 80s-early 90s. You can use bolt grip type puller to remove it, but you need something to protect end of crank. To install it, balancer installer is recommend over board and a hammer. Use 1962 balancer bolt and torque to 120 ft-lb,then remove bolt and install cork. I think bolt is 9/16 NF about 1 1/4 long

Thanks for all the great info this really helps. here in nebraska we dont have huge salvage yards most of them only keep the latest years(kind of a supply & demand thing)Its not every day they get calls for 70s parts I can get after market but just trying to save some $ and half the fun is chasing parts sometimes?? I have been away from the car hobby for about 10 years, so have lost a lot of contacts & info as to where the parts & cars are at thanks again

The world changed in those 10 years. There are many more salvage yards at your disposal.
It is called internet shopping.

the sky is the limit.
