I have an 89 brougham, 5.0L 4bbl, vin Y. The a/c blower motor has stopped, and I have concluded I need a power module. If I short the tan blower wire to ground the blower runs at full speed. Rather than spend $150 for the module, I am wondering if I could attach a variable or multispeed switch to this wire and activate the motor from the cabin as I need it. Will this damage the ecc or main computer?? This is a common problem and I have never seen this solution entertained.

An old module is likely to fail just like mine, so reduced cost for a used item quickly becomes wasted. I am looking for an endorsement for adding a switch to the power wire that I can control manually. Also, I really need to know if such a switch will damage any of the car's electronics.
