99 STS Brake Caliper Removal

jkinne -> 99 STS Brake Caliper Removal (5/13/2007 3:25:59 PM)

Am trying to remove the bolts that attach the brake caliper to the hub assembly.  I've found indications that the bolts may have been applied with locktite and my research states the same.  I've tried using a 15mm socket with 1/2 inch T-bar handle with no luck.  Any ideas how I can break the "death grip" that the locktite has created?

Thanks in advance.

Yes they are very tight.
I use a long cheater bar and sometimes i need to put a pipe on the end of that.

Hate to say it but I've used a mallet on my bar, very carefully, but it worked.

also try using a propane torch  at the head of the bolt, get it really glowing hot,  before you wrench it.
use 6 sided 1/2 inch drive sockets to get a wider and tighter grip.

an 18" breaker bar can do  wonders, combined with all that.

you just stand on the end of it, and bouncing slowly,  make it do its job.

Always a little nut buster and patience is a very good thing! Make sure you are using the right point socket for the item being removed. A good if not best quality socket rench may save you a lot of pain. Most have a decent jack if you do removing the top handle section makes a great simple breaker bar and is always within reach.
