Changing the friggin' air filter!

pooktc5 -> Changing the friggin' air filter! (4/24/2007 2:42:30 PM)

I tried and failed changing the air filter of my '04 SRX. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

The airfilter for the eng?? there are 2 screws on the top edge of mine. Remove the screws and tilt open the cover (helps if you slip the hose off the throttle body), you can pull the filter up and out. Then just drop in a new one (that reminds me I need to order a K&N for our SRX). Now if your talking about the Pollen filter (cabin airfilter) I have yet to remove that one, I've read that it can be a PITA.

I do not recommend an oil wetted air filter element.

I don't like to re-wet 'em, they last a good while and then just toss it and get a new one.  IMO.

I believe this post refers to the comment about getting a certain brand filter which has two letters from the alphabet in its name for a SRX, which happens to be an oil wetted filter. I agree.

So...did you ever get changed?  Was the their a noticeable enhancement?

As well, for the other folks who indicated that an 'oil-wetted' air filter was not recommended...why?  Are you saying it is not recommended in a re-use mode?

some cars have a tendency to build carbon in the intake throttle.
Adding oil may make matters worse.

but if one does it once, properly, in 50,000 miles, who cares.
