On my 88 DeVille, the power door lock (Viper remote) on the passenger side does not work. I have to use the key to open this door.
What is involved in repairing this problem? Thanks

does the lock work if you use the switch on the door instead of the remote? if not it could be loose wire or bad switch which is fairly easy to fix

Just checked, and the only way I can unlock the passenger door inside is manually. The power switch on that door will actually lock all the other doors and unlock them ... but not that door. (The manual lock button does not move.)

I can unlock the passenger door by moving the manual button, but that's it. In other words, the power switches on all doors work except the one on the passenger door. That switch will lock and unlock all doors except the one it is on ....

What am I looking for in regards to a replacement part or repair?

could be a bad wire,loose wire,or possibly the electric motor but i doubt it. my guess is most likly the wiring.

look at the book if I remember right its a breakable fuse that in the fuse are it may be bad it looks like a littlie metal relay as appose to a fuse.

i have no clue as to what is inside that door panel.
my 1st instinct be to check the mechanical gizmo that activates
the locks, and i be expecting a solenoid that may well be fused
as onecool stated above.
these models use a motor in lieu of a solenoid?

i hope you have a voltmeter or test lamp.
i find such tools as usefull as the screwdrivers.

If the statement above means that not even the driver's door power switch can lock/unlock the passanger door, then it is likely that the solenoid is shot, lost electrical contact or its mechanical linkage has gotten detached. Stick your ear to the door panel while pressing the power lock button; if you hear it clicking the problem must be mechanical. Compare the sound with that of a functional door lock. In either case, it shouldn't be a big or expensive project. The door panel and water deflector have to be removed so you can work through the access holes of the inner door panel.

Actuators/solenoids for GM cars are pretty much all the same from the beginning of time. You can get them on line for as little as $18. Door panel removal, drilling rivets is a pain but you can do this repair yourself.
