Caddy is overheating. Symptoms not leaking any water, but the water is disappearing! I can hear the water pump pumping. the fan will not kick in. meaning water is not getting to the fan sensor to activate the fan.

water disappearing? two things .. 1 - if you are using water, the gaskets, freeze plugs and/or headgaskets are probably gonne. you need to use a mix of 50/50 coolant/distilled water and supplement tablets and change it out every 24 months to maintain headgasket and engine protected from oxidation. (regardless of GM's 5 year maint cycle that we know fails too often) 2 - since you said the "liquid" is disappearing with NO signs of external leakage, most likely you have a compromised headgasket. you can check for water in oil, white exhaust smoke, do a pressure test or use the kit below to verify. (probably other ways also, but these are fairly simple) 3 - the sensor thing i am not understanding please get back to us and report. quote:
ORIGINAL: Stealth this product will answer the head gasket question if you still cant fine the source of the loss of coolant. looking at the posts and the codes you reported overheating, if te overheating is serious, the car may have warped heads and therefore a compromised headgasket .... may .. somwthing to keep in mind... even if you have a leak, i am not sure you would see white smoke unless the leak gets into the exhaust system. it could go into the crankcase and simply evaporate with driving, or it could drip outside. at any case, this should give you a yes/no answer IF the question remains. the normal procedure is the pressure test, but this stuff you can probably do yourself. best of luck Block Test Kit You can see it locate combustion leaks without guess work! Stealth is for sure on the right track. I want to suggest that you ensure that the thermostat is functioning properly since it seems you ar not circulating coolant through the engine. Does your heater work? I mean does it blow hot air? Once you top up the coolant how long until it is low again?

if you say that the coolant isnt getting to the sensor to kick the fan on try to take that fan out and test it to see if it does actually work the fan may be bad if not then may be theres an bad fuse. also check oil to see if there is water in it.

overheating causes ... -low collant, - bottom rad hose not OEM, - water pump impeller backwards, - belts slipping, - clutch slipping, - A/C compressor overloading, - exhaust manifold leak, - timing off, - plugged cat, - plugged rad, - thermostat backwards, - 1,000+ FÂș exhaust leak boling the coolant, http://www.cadillacforum.com/m_7193/tm.htm quote:
