March 22, 2007 GM's Lutz confirms development under way on new Cadillac V12 DETROIT -- The AutoWeek March 26th issue reveals General Motors Holden division is well on the way to creating a new V12- powered Cadillac flagship. In its cover story AutoWeek divulges that GM's Australian brand Holden is developing the hardware for an opulent V12-engined supersedan that draws its design inspiration from the 2003 Cadillac Sixteen concept car, a car that would return the high-line GM division as The Standard of the World. The story is written by Greg Kable, with reporting by Julian Rendell. AutoWeek reports that the distinctively styled, rear-wheel-drive model is positioned at the top of the range, with a list of high-end features never before offered on a Cadillac, including the latest in crash avoidance and safety technology. The car, dubbed Cadillac Twelve, would compete with Mercedes-Benz S Class, the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8, among others. AutoWeek sources say the V12-powered flagship essentially mates two of the firm's 60-degree 3.6-liter V6 engines on a common crankshaft. The V12 will feature direct injection, cylinder deactivation and a state-of-the-art automatic gearbox to ensure competitive levels of power and economy. GM global product vice president Bob Lutz, a longtime proponent of a luxury grand touring sedan for Cadillac, confirms development of the V12. All that remains is whether Lutz can convince GM's bean counters to put the Cadillac into production.

It appears to all be B.S. GM denies V12 Cadillac super sedan rumors 03/28/07, 10:32am, EDT Last week, a report by AutoWeek magazine claimed General Motors had approved development of a Cadillac sedan designed to tackle the Mercedes S-Class. The report said testing of a new V12 engine for the car was "well underway" by Holden in Australia. GM product planner Bob Lutz and Holden's engineering boss have both flatly denied the report. "It’s definitely not happening," executive director of engineering Tony Hyde told Australia's GoAuto. The AutoWeek report claimed GM vice chairman Bob Lutz stated in an interview that development had already begun at Holden for a 7.2-liter V12 made from two 3.6-liter V6s joined at the crankshaft. "We are definitely not doing it," Hyde said. “It might be possible to join two V6s, but we are not doing it. None exist in our part of the world and we are certainly not testing anything like that at Lang Lang." "We are not working on any Cadillacs," he continued. "Nothing. We’re full-up in terms of resources with Camaro and our own cars. The G8 is a challenge from a timing point of view." Lutz denies In an email response to a member of the GMInsideNews chat forums, Lutz also denied the report. "Sadly, that article was about 90 percent pure invention," Lutz said. "We have kicked off no such program." Baseless rumors? It's not known how AutoWeek could make an error of this magnitude. The report was based around a purported interview with Lutz at the opening of a dealership in Europe. While Lutz may have commented on a super sedan project, it appears he didn't state anything near what the magazine claims. The report also cited "sources" within Holden that were adamant about the Australian firm's involvement in the project. In December, AutoWeek claimed Ford was developing sedan and station wagon versions of the popular Mustang for the 2011 model year. After the report was published, Ford was inundated with hate mail from Mustang fans. This prompted Ford to take the unusual step of issuing a press release denying the baseless rumors.

that would be nice revitalisation/reniasance of cadillac should have a high point like a new flagship XLR looks great ! CTS-V is Hammer-killer ....but XLR it''s not enough powerfull and is less techological advanced than Merc Sl and CTS-V is just Pupmed up sedan ! .... I think flagship like Sixteen concept is what cadillac needs....it''s pure cadillac with giant engine(it should be big V8 like 500 cu.in, or V16 maybe...that 72 sounds good.... so Cien concept.i dont know , it''s supercar but not so "cadillacish".....but Sixteen is cool.. so more like SLR Mclaren (sound , image - Modern luxury Muscle) than Zonda , Ferrari supercar..... what do You think ? PS: people : do You have some favorurite "moto-writers" Dan Neil have been mentioned.... can You recomand some great reviewers...... I love to read great reviews...they are written like a great novels.. so the best reviews , ..the best reviewers?.... did You read this: From the Los Angeles Times Cadillac CTS-V is full of sound, fury and grace The 556-horsepower sedan is a speedster that provides superb cornering and control in a refined and seductive package. By DAN NEIL RUMBLE SEAT .....
