there can be several causes. one may be the oil pump. or a worn out rod bearing, or a faulty oil pressure sending unit. you can start by checking some of those parts.

if you got some replacement jobs,or if you need some parts for your problem there's one place i could suggest. try partstrain and look up some engine parts or a new sending unit maybe.

Funny......I am going thru the same thing now with my 97 deville cocncurs, the light would flash on ocassion at idle, the oil was normally 1 to 2 quarts low. now the light sometimes stays on steady and i get the chiming AND THE stop engine low oil pressure. NOW THE OIL LEVEL IS FINE! i took the cap off the uses a flashlight ot make sure oil was circulating, i checked the dip stick while the motor was running to and it was full up the stick. most likely its the oil pressure sensor, the same thing happened on a 200 auora my pops owned. im pretty sure the sensor is located on top of the motor just obve the oil cap, i hit mine a few times witha hammer and its been working fine since. i really would not worry
