unkut, Make sure you have that coolant flushed on that 2000 Deville if it hasn't already been done. The life expectancy for the Dexcool is 5 years or 150,000 miles. I would hate to see you run into any coooling system problems with that beauty. I have a 2001 Deville with 29,800 miles and had Mr Goodwrench change mine at 25,000 this past summer. That was the 5 year point for me. I don't take chances with all the horror stories I hear out there about water pumps and blown head gaskets. Good luck. I love my Deville. Eddiek

Eddiek Thanks for reminding me of this! I just called the dealer I purchased it from and it was completely maintenanced before sold. This included all the filters, oil, and fluids. (Sigh).... so atleast some relief there, haha!

Just my 2 cents worth, that DEX cool claim of 150,000 miles is a stretch not only for a Cadillac but for any GM. My 100,000 mile Suburban is in the shop now with manifold gasket leak.My mechanic says clean and flush every 2 years regardless of the claim.

Katzmans That mightbe overdoing it for me. That would work out to a coolant flush every 9,000 miles on my car. Eddiek

unkut Isn't that strange that it happened after we brought it up? Did you buy the car from A Cadillac dealer? Check the resevoir and if it's low let them know. Keep us informed. I'm sure the Caddy dealer will take care of it (if it was a Caddy dealer) Eddiek

according to GM Engineers, the coolant's life has little to do with mileage and a lot to do with time. the protection simply wears off in about two years. after that, it is back to oxydizing metal & SEALS. GM Engineering also discourages FLUSHING, specially with CLEANERS that cannot never be totally removed. Flusha and clean is only adviced when the coolant system has been severly compromised and the sytem is full of muck. the recommendation is simply. - change coolant every two years, - open the drains, and let out as much as possible then refill per specs. - use distilled water for the mix and not hard tap water. that is it .. pure, simple and inexpensive. IF you think i'm blowing smoke, go and read this: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/gm_dexcool.html IMO, forget the 150,000 miles, forget the 5 years, forget the Dexcool .. there seems to be a TSB, regarding "Dexcool", and repairs for overheat. Flush, fill, new thermostat as well as CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS. many owners of GM cars are switching OFF the Dexcoool.. quote:
