Dear Amanda,

K&N filters are great filters, but they have a tendancy to burn up mass air flow sensors on late model cars. Here is an example I have an 04 STS, I decided to run a K&N filter roughly three weeks later my check engine light came on when I took it to a cadillac dealer for service they stated the after market K&N filter burned out my mass air fow sensor. We all know dealerships will always look for a reason other than poor workmanship, but my buddy has an 04 Mercedes E-500 and the identical thing happened to him. K&N filters are great I run one on My 70 1/2 Camaro Z28, but I think K&N need's to spend more time regarding research for the late model cars.

Thanks,
Tony

hmm..thats odd tony. I have only ever run K&N on my cars, and one is 2002 nonner. I keep it clean, and dont over oil it. It is my understanding that if not properly oiled, the oil can cause issues with MAFS.

Dear Patrick,

I was told by Cadillac, and my buddy was notified by Mercedes that mass air flow sensors are only designed to allow a certain amount of air to flow thru the system.Since K&N filters are non restrictive filters they allow to much air to be forced thru the system which literally causes a new Mass air Flow sensor to burn out very quickly. As for your 02, it may be possible that this issue has to do with 04's and up I'm not sure. I only realized this issue when my Cadillac and my buddies Mercedes had the identical problems while using K&N filters.

Thanks,
Tony
