I HAVE A 1995 NORTHSTAR SEVILLE SLS AND EVERY TIME I CRANK THE CAR, TRANSMISSION FLUID SPILLS FROM AROUND THE DIPSTICK (EVEN WITH THE DIPSTICK FIRMLY SCREWED ON). EVERYONE KEEPS TELLING ME THAT IT IS BECAUSE THERE IS TOO MUCH FLUID IN THE TRANNY BUT ONCE ALL THE FLUID SPILLED OUT, I PUT JUST ONE QAURT OF FLUID AND IT STILL SPIT EVERY DROP BACK OUT. THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT INTO ANY GEARS ( I THINK THIS IS DUE TO NO FLUID). I CANT FIND ANY SHOP TO WORK ON THE CAR, NOT EVEN THE DEALERSHIP. (THEY DONT HAVE A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST). ALL THE OTHER SHOPS JUST WON'T TOUCH A NORTHSTAR CADILLAC. I HAVE NO EARTHLY IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THERE WAS A LITTLE HARSH SHIFTING BEFORE THIS PROBLEM STARTED. SOMETIMES IT WOULD SHIFT SO HARSHLY THAT THE CAR WOULD EVEN BURN A LITTLE RUBBER ONCE THE GEAR FINALLY CHANGED. THE CAR ONLY HAS 114,000 MILES SO I DON'T THINK THAT THE TRANNY SHOULD BE COMPLETELY DEAD. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM??? IF YOU NEED MORE INFORMATION, LET ME KNOW. I AM TRYING TO FIND A EASY WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IF THERE IS ONE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID $3600 FOR A USED TRANSMISSION WITH MORE MILES THAN MY CADDY HAS ON IT AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO SEND IT OFF SOMEWHERE TO GET FIXED. DOES ANYONE THINK IT MAY BE THE TORQUE CONVERTER OR SOMETHING? IF THERE IS A MECHANIC IN THE AREA THAT CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM, LET ME KNOW. IF YOU ARE NOT IN MY AREA, YOUR ADVICE WOULD BE WELL APPRECIATED.

Is the check engine light on?
If you add fluid without the engine running you will overfill it and it will spit back out.
ONLY check and add fluid with the engine running and in park.

If you have no codes and the fluid level is not low then the trans needs to be opened up to see what failed inside.
A torque convertor is one possibility among many but not the most likely.

$3600 seems too high for a used unit. I believe a reman from GM with a 3 yr 50k mile warranty would be near that price.
You may get a better response on a local shop if you let us know where you are located.

yes, the check engine light is on. there are two codes that come up. I will get them for you today. i did not know the car had to be running to ad fluid. i will try that too. I was thinking torque converter myself, I think one of the codes means invalid signal to torque converter. Thanks for your response and I will get back to you as soon as i get the codes.
