I'm working on a 1999 cadalac escelade. I put a new fuel pump and filter on it, and it will work for about a week, and then go out again. I am using factory fumps and new fuel filters every time. if any of you have any suggestions an where I should go to next. let me know I would appreciate it. I'm on my 4th fuel pump in the last two months, so I definately think there is something wrong besides the pump ( maybe a wiring issue) if anyone knows let me know please thanks.

I'll listen but need more info. Q: Is the Pump running? Can you hear it when you replace it? Is the fuse OK? Is the wire harness delivering ~12V to the Fuel Pump Asm? If you don't hear it, is there still pressure at the fuel rail schrader valve (tire valve looking at the engine fuel rail)? When you take it out, will it run then? Let us know more....

Subject: Info - Replacement of Connector When Replacing Fuel Tank Module/Fuel Pump Module #04-06-04-088b - (06/17/2005)

Models: 1999-2003 Cadillac Escalade

1996-2001 Chevrolet Suburban

1996-2003 Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe

1996-2001 GMC Suburban, Yukon XL

1996-2003 GMC Sierra, Yukon

1500 Series Vehicles Only

Excludes E85 Flexible Fuel Vehicles (VIN Z -- RPO L59) and Diesel Vehicles (VINs F, S, Y, 1 -- RPOs L65, L56, L57, LB7)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This bulletin is being revised to better define the involved vehicles. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-06-04-088A (Section 06 - Engine/Propulsion System).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Analysis of returned parts has determined that any residual damage to the connector may result in a voltage drop across the module and can lead to repeat failures. Therefore, GM Engineering is advising technicians to replace the connector anytime the Fuel Tank Module/Fuel Pump Module is replaced.

Important: Not all vehicles were built with the Metri-Pack 150 Connector. Refer to the diagrams for identification of the connectors. This bulletin ONLY applies to vehicles equipped with the Metri-Pack 150 Connector. If the vehicle is equipped with the GT 280 Connector, disregard this bulletin.

Notice: Do not insert test equipment probes into the connector. The diameter of the test probes will deform most terminals. A deformed terminal will cause a poor connection, which will result in a system failure. To check the integrity of the new splice, the appropriate test probe for this terminal is a Gray J 35616-2A. Do not use paper clips or other substitutes to probe terminals. Using a larger terminal test adapter will damage the terminal.

Important : It is important to use the splice sleeves provided with the connector due to the exposure to moisture. Refer to Splicing Copper Wire Using Splice Sleeves in SI (SI Document ID #303648) for proper splicing procedures.

If you hear the pump running but nothing is coming out, something could be in the tank chewing them up.

We had one that was repaired from a local body shop. The fuel lines/ tank had been disconnected long enough that they started rusting from the inside.
The truck would eat pumps about one a month until we cleaned out the tank and put new lines on it.

Are you replacing the fabric filter, or making sure there is a filter on the Fuel pump or Module?

Also, FLCaddytech mentioned cleaning the tank. If the pump filter is clogged, it might be enough to over work the pump, thus burning the armature.

On the failed Fuel Pumps, can you put 12V to them and have the run or are they dead?

I have a 2000 Escalade and have been going through the same problem for abou the last year. The dealership put 4 fuel pumps in it but that wasn't the problem. They also tried a new computer.  I finally took it to a Cadillac Dealership last week and they said when you replace the fuel pumps on those they also need to replace the 5 pin connector located on the wiring about 5 feet from the fuel pump.  It heats up in time and looses connection. Mine would work for about a month or so after replacing it.  Once in a while I would jump up and down on the back and then I would hear it turn on.  The Cadillac Dealer said they feel it is definately fixed now so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Good Luck!!
