i know its a jeep not a caddy, but the jeep forum wasent really any help. Im helping my friend work on his 85 jeep grand wagoneer. I go to put the positive cable on the battery and sparks go every where and the engine starts to turn over and try to start. scared the **** out of me. does this sound like a direct ground or something? What could this be? i know its not a caddy but any help would be appreciated.

that sounds to me like the starter solenoid is shorted  or the ignition switch is stuck ON crank ...

thanks that was what i was thinking, because you could always stick a screw driver on the solenoid on old cars to start it becuase it connects the wires, so there must be a short to the starter.
