I have a 97 Deville with 130,000 miles on it. I have been told that my gasket has failed and it will cost 2700 to fix it. I am a college student and I just want to sell the car because I cannot invest anymore money, tires, tune up, etc. into it. And I do not want to repair it...

Can someone give me an idea of what I should try and sell the car for?

Thank you

Erica

Have you had a professional give you the estimate? A straight head gasket job is not $2,700. If you have other issues it could be more costly. Did you run your engine in an overheated condition? Have your cylinder heads warped, have the bolts pulled? There are a lot of questions to answer first.

You can get a whole other engine for under $2,000.

In good condition, a mint 97 car, I think that with gas prices as they are $4,000 would be the upper limit. In need of repairs, 50 to 60% discount. My opinion.

I called my cadillac dealer and requested a quote on a head gasket job; $2700-$3000.

A head gasket replacement only should be under $1,000, I don''t think I was clear in my first post. If there are other issues then the higher figure may be true. We need some more info.
