I just bought a 98 STS and when i try to take it from park to anything it is hard to get it to cooperate. after messing with it for a few minutes it will finally "click" then it will work perfect. the guy at the dealer said it was something to do with a silenoid that is supposed to activate when you step on the brake. he also said sometimes if theif is coffe or coke that has been spilled on it that can cause this. i was going to try to fix it myself since it sounds like it may just need cleanning but wanted to ask if any body else had done this before? will i have to remove the entire dash to get the console off to expose this silenoid? any help would be appreciated.

Why not try spraying some WD-40 in there. It won''''t ruin electrical parts and it has some cleaning capabilities too. Just a suggestion trying to save you a big hassle

Shouldn''t be too hard, start by looking in compartmemt for mounting screws to floor. Don''t force anything.
