I am wanting to swap the stock 5.0 engine in my 1988 Cadillac Brougham D''elegance for a 350.  Any tips or pointers?  How much should I expect to have to spend on this?  Anyone have a good used 350 for sale?

Is that 5.0 a Chevy or Olds ? I think it is an Olds 307 so you should look for an Olds 350, what the heck look for an Olds 455!

GM crates are all Chevy so he would need a new transmission, Two patterns Chevy and BOP I believe.

As far as 455 goes I am not an Olds expert but I believe the 307, 350 and the 403 share the block while the 455 is out there with teh 425. There is no noticeable difference in physical size. The 403 is a good motor too and would be a straight bolt in. Remember that Pontiac used this in the Trans Am and some Can Am''''s.

A 403 would bolt right in?  Hmmmm.  Thats interesting.  I might just do that.  I want a little more pep then what my 5.0 is giving me.  I really appreciate the help guys, i will have to try to find a 403 then.

Yes a far as I know the 403 swap for a 307 is common among Olds guys. Both are Olds small blocks and the 455 is a big block. Other Olds small blocks are the 330 and 350. The 403 was rated at 185 HP in most applications but it does have a lot of torque, 320 ft lb at 2000 rpm. For comparison, the Y code Cadillac Northstar has 275 HP and 300 ft lb torque and while Oldsmobile used several different ratings on the 307 over the years generally the engine was rated at 140 net horsepower and 240 ft lb of torque. Torque is what you feel so it would be a big improvement for you.
