amjourney -> 2002 SLS engine just stops running (6/26/2008 4:47:57 AM)

Hi all,

I have a 2002 SLS with about 63K miles on it.  The car for the most part is a dream, but it will stall with no warning...usually when I''''ve stopped and it''''s idling and I didn''''t give the car a warm up period. The past 2 days it''''s actually died while sitting and idling while I''''m letting it warm up.  When I go to restart, it takes longer for the engine crank to engage unless I turn the ignition off completely and wait about 5 secs before trying to restart.  Also at times, when driving it will ''''lurch'''' like its going to stall.  I''''ll try to pull the engine codes tonight when I get home from work.  Any thoughts?

Thanks
AJ

I just pulled the codes:

DDM U1301 history
      U1713 history

IPC   U116 history

IRC   U1016 history

MSM  B1860 history
       U1000 history

PCM P0385 history

Since I have no clue what any of this means, could one of these codes identify why the car keeps stalling and bucking?

thanks in advance for any help.

AJ

PM0385 is crankshaft position sensor and that could be the culprit.

Thanks so much for the fast reply.  I''ll get it checked out.

I agree. I had the same exact issue with my Ford Thunderbird SC and replacing the crank sensor fixed it. Don''t know how difficult it is to replace one on a caddy SLS but the Tbird wasn''t easy and I had it done at a shop. They charged me $100.00 extra for diagnostics although I supplied them the part knowing it was the crank sensor so be aware of that.
