1992 deville no start

yesterday out of nowhere, my car decides to sputter. i ignored it cause it worked fine afterwards. then as i was driving again, it did the same thing, only this time it stalled. i waited a few minutes, it started backu up, i drove it home. now this morning i go to start it to go to work, and it doesnt turn over. it just sits there and tries to start, but does nothing.
it does have a service engine soon light but i dont have the money to go to the dealer and have them check it out. and my work (nissan dealership) doesnt have a diagnostic tool that fits my car because it is so old. and i cant find anyone that does. so i have no idea what the deal is with the service engine light. can anyone help me out PLEAse? it would be greatly appreciated.

not sure what the car is doing ..
does the engine turn over or does it just make click sounds?
can you explain the sputter with a bit more detail?
we really REALLY need the CODES .. go to our FAQ section and see how to retrieve them .. I dont think you need a "diagnostic tool" .. these cars have one built in.

My car recently did somewhat of the same thing and it was my fuel pump. It turned over but did not fire.

this is exactly what my car is doing now. it turns over and doesnt fire at all. the sputtering was pretty much like... i cant really explain it besides using the word sputter. as i was driving it just stopped accelerating, and i would have the pedal to the floor with no response. it just kept idling weird at below about 800rpm ill say. just up and down up and down up and down. then eventually just turned off. and now it just turns over with no fire.

can you provide a link to the thread im supposed to be reading? because all i can find is FAQ about how to post on the forum and stuff... keep in mind its a 92 so i dont have all the special extra buttons like info setup and reset and what have you. im glad this forum is actually active ad responds to threads. thanks dudes

You didnt note down in your profile WHERE the car is .. it sometimes matters in diagnosis .. wet, dry, hot, cold weather.
Interpreting .. engine CRANKS over but wont START !
- we dont know IF there is fire .. ignition system
- we dont know IF there is fuel flow - fuel system
the usual suspects are:
Ignition system:
coil,
Fuel system:
fuel pump,
contaminated fuel,
fuel filter.
w/o codes, it is all but a guess.

it was warm at night weather, on a dry road. no rain or anything. and yes it cranks over but does not start. whenever i get home from work ill do the code thing and ill put all the codes it has, it probably has like a million.
this problem has never happened before, then i filled up my gas tank at a different gas station (93, 10% ethanol), and it does this. im not sure if this makes a difference or anything. do you think this could be the cause of getting bad gas or something?

ok well the codes i got were
E27
E31
E52
E71
F40
.7.0?
and then the car just started right up. no hassle at all. i have no idea why? i just turned the key and it started. i dont understand. someone enlighten me
