What do they mean by the first box windshiled for example where it says 6"? The strip of tint on top on the front windshield can be 6 inches or what ?

I had a light tint placed on my '08 CTS all the way around in MI & have had no problems.  My previous cars have had "factory" all the way around, which really is dark but not quite "limo" & I did have issues with those.  Here's what "smoked out" looks like on my CTS.
