We just bought a 1995 Caddie Fleetwood. It has 23,000 miles. It has the corvette engine I guess. The owner only used it for family vacations. The problem is I was driving on the highway the other day when it started to loose acceleration and sound as though it was going to stall. It shook and was not accelerating a whole lot. I got off the highway and stopped at a light. It sounded and felt like it was going to stall. The check engine light went on then. I pulled in a lot and turned off the car for a few minutes. I then started it back up. It seemed fine till I got where I was going. On a return trip home it sounded fine for a while but I did not take the highway. After about 15 to 20 minutes of driving it started acting this way again.I had it towed. Any ideas about what could be wrong? Someone told us it may be the computer system?

Don't know the code I will find out. But the station we took it to first said it needed a new computer - I hope that is not true. It seems like the car was not used (low miles)enough for this to happen. 1/4 tank of gas in the car when this happened.

I guess I am not sure what you mean about code being set. The person at this station said when he hooked it up to the computer he got a huge list of codes that came up. We are taking it somewhere else now. Do you have any idea?

This really sounds rediculious but I guess it was practically out of gas. The fuel gage was not accurate. $700.00 replacement cost.

Sometimes Fleetwoods had problem with evap system and vacuum would colapse tank causing car to run out of gas at 1/4 tank. You could loosen gas cap when condition occurred and  restart car then drive away if this is the case. Check for kinked evap hoses in radiator support area.

Yes. The problem was the gas guage was 1/4 tank inaccurate and it ran out of gas. They replaced the fuel guage (not with an aftermarket part - $) and the fuel filter. The cost was more like $1,000. They took off the gas tank and said there was some nasty gas left it there. The car was not used much with 23,000 miles. It seems to be running fine now. It better for $1,000.

You better don't let your car run below the quarter tank just in case
