attached is a Craigslist car that I traveled with Scott Flack of Indiana to get in DC.  I went to help push it on a trailer as it was a "parts car" that hadn't started in two years.  I remember walking up to it and saying "Scottie me man this is not a parts car".  Hardtop was with it and it was filthy but a little sea foam and it started right up.  Deals are out there! little over two grand! Gotta look hard.

Bill,

A nice car .. I did know about the car.

Not so long ago, JCS and myself had an argument .. I stuck by the 8,000 survivors (as of 3 years ago) predicted by the Insurance Institute  and JCS stuck with "does not apply cuz allante owners have the means to keep the cars going" .. he stated that I just keep beating a dead horse.  Bill, the horse wasnt and still not dead.  For the most part, Allante owners are nothing like JCS thinks.  Sure, there are a few, maybe even a couple of thousand that think that way, but for the most part, the cars are cool two roadsters that get trashed/retired when economic logic dictates.  In the eyes of most owners, the car is as special as their wallet.

I have walked away from dozens of Allantes, at the $1,000 level because I didn want to hassle with such cars and I am not into the parts business.  The last one I found in S.D. was one such car, last week another in the Bay area .. they are out there by the dozens in far away States - so I only did consider the ones close by.

Dont get me wrong, I love my cars, but when my wallet says it makes no sense to keep putting big money into it, I dont.  You can see the picture of my '88 & '92 together .. at this point, unless something unexpected goes down, the '88 will not be on the road by 2009.  Things are happening to it that need attention and I am simply not going to put any more money into her.  When it becomes unsafe or road unworthy, she will retire.  Last weekend, pulling into the parts store, a guy walked up to us and pulled out $2,200 cash and said, "I want the car if you got the OEM rims"  .. my response "make it $3,000 as she sits and its yours"  ..  he said "not worth that much."

That Bill, is the reality, JCS was and is wrong.  One cant generalize all Allante owners by the ways of a few .. the cars are being dumped .. Johnny, Scott and Steve and Brian and Gary and .. and .. and ...

The Recaros (saddle/tan in almost new condition) in my '88 will look and feel awesome in my 4x4 that just happens to have a saddle/tan interior, the BOSE rebuilt system will be wanted by someone, the uncurled dash will fit nicely in my '92, the "its in awesome condition 4100" will power another Caddy somewhere, the OEM rims are already on the '92, the mint like GOLD stripe tail arrays will bring some decent cash, etc .. etc ..

I suspect that as we speak, going by the Insurance Institute statistics, there are under 6,000 Allante cars registered and ROADWORTHY.  The others dont count.  Half of that are 1993 models .. HALF OF THEM.  That means about 3,000 combined PHASE I / II cars left.  Whatever JCS says, is wrong, his logic is faulty.
( IF you read this JCS, no offense intended, there are just guess estimates since there is no way to verify, nevertheless, based on statistics)

How many 1992 "NU10xxxx" were made?  Well, they only made 1,933, of which 253 of were BLACK, even fewer Triple BLACK, and even FEWER NU10xxxx (Hard Top models) .. so, it did take me a very long time to locate one .. remember "The right '92 " I would say.  The seller was dishonest, but that is another story that WILL unwrap later.  Will it be a collectible?  What I know that it will be a rare event to park anywhere and see one just like it .. I sort of enjoy that part.  UNIQUE!
It be interesting to find out how many operational 1992 NU10xxx cars are in the VIN database and how many of those are  TRIPLE BLACK.
A 1992 Triple BLACK, Hard Top Model ..  oh, she has the digital dash which is so highly coveted, but doesnt meet my taste. I want a ANALOG dash.

have always liked this model and seeing that the prices are getting pretty low on some of those I think I might look for a '93. The Northstar makes all the difference to me.

Advice on a 1993 Cadillac Allante ?

Buy a later V4J model (code in spare well). The pre-V4J I would strongly advice against, expect for parts or buy very cheap (under $4,000).
Check the coolant .. if you spot gel/mud like material, run away .. dont walk.
DO a Compression test, check headgasket integrity
Review the maintenance record.
Inspect the $2,000 tail lights, INTERNALLY for melting or cracks (moisture issues).
Inspect the $600 headlights for cracks and moisture issues.
Inspect the $800 Digital Dash.
Codes .. codes .. codes.
Buy a 60,000 to 150,000 mile car.
stay away from the 20,000 to 30,000 mile garage queens.
Dont pay over $6,000.
Do the rest of the standard inspections.

But more important, dont get caught up in the misguided idea of some
Allante owners with claims
of $25,000 values .. The 1993s are being traded
more than any other model year, CHEAP .. the old timers website gurus
owning 1993 models are selling them off - those are facts. You can ask why,
you will get a lot or rationals but at the end it doesnt change the fact,
the 1993 Allante cars are being dumped. Most mint like 1993s are going for
under $9,000 . some well below that.

And so are the 1987 1988 1989 1990 1990.5 1991 1992 models, just at a slower rate.
More 1993 Allante cars are sold / traded than all of the other 6 year models put together.

As gasoline goes over $4 / gallon and heads for the $5 by Thanksgiving, expect more of these
cars to go on sale. This morning, 91 octane fuel was $4.13 in So Ca .. 87 octane $3.86

All in all, I found around 700 Allante cars FOR-SALE in one week period ..
it is NOT a typo .. I found 700+ Allante cars FOR-SALE ...
Where to LOOK?

craigslist.com
YAKAZ.com
Autotrader.com
Ebay.com
