1989 fleetwood -> brake pad thickness (1/12/2008 2:00:57 PM)

my brakes make a squill noise every once in a while when i come to a stop. so i was going to check my brake pad thickness but i dont know what they should be at. Does anybody know what the thickness should be at on an 89' fleetwood FWD? Or where i can find the correct thickness?

1/8" thickness is the magic number for pads.
they tend to crack, break, and fail below that.
if you got rivets, they gouge your rotors below that.

if the feelers are scrapping, replace the pads.  they are set pretty accurate.

Brakes, by nature will squeal at times especially with light parking lot application. The wear sensors or scrapers as they are called, will squeal before stepping on the pedal as you drive to give you a few days warning prior to going to metal to metal. I agree with the 1/8" thickness rule of thumb.

If it's not too late rotors can be turned, (don't know how old they are), otherwise best to get new ones.
