I have an 05 SRX with the V8. Are these engines typically noisy???? It sounds like a cement mixer when your driving it. The dealer said that's how those engines sound.... I would imagine a cadillac would have been quiet..no????

Having just bought our SRX, I'm no expert but I did look into both versions when shopping. At first, I leaned towards the V6, however... After driving a V8, there was no question in my mind. V8. The six is only marginally more fuel efficient, so for the 1800 miles a month we'll drive, it would save a whopping $50 or so a month. Insignificant. The V8 was quieter than the six, and felt tangibly more powerful. The SRX's experience massive depreciation, and the used V8 we bought was no more expensive than similar V6 models with more miles. (Our flawless V8 has 22,000 miles on it, we paid $15,000) You're buying a relatively expensive car, why cheap out on a big part of the driving experience.

Actually, there were two years of 6-cyl Vettes, 1953 & 1954. But I have never seen one of them.

"the 1954 is the last Corvette to have a 6 cylinder engine. In 1955 a milestone was made in Corvette history. It was the introduction of the first V-8 Corvette. With GM almost dropping the underpowered "Blue Flame" in-line 6 Corvette, this was like a new beginning for the car. The easiest way to differentiate the 1955 is the "V" in Corvette is enlarged and gold colored signifying the V-8 engine under the hood."
