hey guys, im in a 89'fleetwood front wheel drive. when ever i start the car and push the brake pedal to switch gears, the pedal is very stiff. So stiff that it wont move at first so i have to pump a couple of times untill it lossend up to normall. Its been like this for a while probaly about couple of months. My brakes also fad when sitting at a red light. Ive had trouble with the master cylinder before and its been fixed like twice about a year ago or 2. Is it possible that there is just air in my lines and i just need to blead my brakes? What do yall think?

Vacuum brakes has regular type master cylinder and a big round metal can behind it, and works on engine vacuum.Electric power brakes are tied to teves anti-lock brake system, to make it simple has master cylinder top is not a rectanglelar, no vacuum hose from engine, several electrical connectors and switches.there is a big $$$$ difference, and approach to how to correct

looks like it has been fixed already as this thread's kinda old. but if anyone drops by with the same problem, i would suggest to check them pistons.  they get kinda rusty (not too much) and makes braking a bit stiff.

as for that brake booster thingy, it looks like this http://www.car-stuff.com/store/images/prodimage/images/a1_cardone/A15474826.jpg

also, if you are having trouble with your brakes, it is always a safe bet to check all brake system components.  i learned that lesson the hard way when my old escalade (pre-owned) had a problem with the brake fluid lines which i got fixed right away but failed to notice that my Cadillac Escalade brake pads need replacement too.
