Hey Buck;  The upside is that she started, that means that you are close to where she has to be. Assuming that the timing has been reset to specs. and you have all the plug wires in the same locations as the old dist. It wouldn't hurt to check that again, then how is the excelleration when you put her to the floor from an idle ? Make sure all the plug wires are seated on the dist. and on the plugs. You may have to crimp the ends a bit to make the fit a tight one. Do you have the HEI ignition?? Did you use the silicone lube on the ignition module contacts. Hope this helps out.

4.5 and 4.9 pfi engines are sfi. distributor oreintation is important cam sensor is mounted in distributor. If distributor is installed incorrectly engine will start may or may not run because injector will not be spraying at the right time..ie # 1 spraying when #8 should be.This will cause a misfire. I would suggest to make sure distributor housing is in block correctly.Hopefully you have a book or picture that shows how it supposed to be installed.Hope it helps
