I have a 92 Deville w/4.9. My Hays repair manual states that the head bolt torques are as follows: 1st pass 38 ft/lbs, 2nd pass 68 ft/lbs and 3rd pass on #1,3 and 4 to 90 ft/lbs. I started out torqueing 1st 35ft/lbs, 2nd 48 ft/lbs and 3rd 60 ft/lbs. (I was looking at the wrong chart) but regardless the #1 head bolt stripped out before getting to 60 ft/lbs. I need advice in 2 areas here. First I was told I could repair the block with a 12 x 1.75 heli-coil kit with the original head bolt. I called Timeserts and they said I would have to pay about $350 for a kit that has 10 inserts with it. I am hoping that the heli-coil will work? Then second I need to verify the correct torque specifications for my 92 model Deville with a 4.9 motor. Thank You for your help.

I don't have the torque specs, but the heli coil should work fine.
