Default Removeable of shift **** on 01 Eldorado

Not sure if I need to remove clip to remove **** and then pull straight up...if I could get clip out then would I be able to put it back?...

Well, I could not determine for sure about the clip, so here is what I did.
I purchased a aerosol can of Rust-oleum Satin smooth protective enamel at Lowes for $3.99, almond color to match the interior. I cleaned with Windex then wrapped a double sheet around the **** bottom and shielded off the dash, etc to avoid over spray......then gave 1 pass, let dry good(2 days)then gave another pass, , (2 days) and finally a 3rd pass and it looks and feels brand new....no stress and no mess....also used very small fan to help dry.
