Default 1969 Coupe De Vill 472 trouble starting

Over a period of time, about a month, the problem progressed to the car not starting. When I would go to turn her over, it would hesitate for a second, slowly turn, then catch. Sometimes, it would start perfect, others, I would have to turn the kick back to the off position, then retry, and it would catch differently. One morning, it would not turn over or click at all. Then after 10 tries, it caught and fired up. I drove it about 2 miles to get lunch. Once i came back out after eating, she would just click, felt like it was losing power the more I tried. I had to leave it there and came back a few hours later with my ladies car, and hooked up cables, and after a couple tries it finally caught and fired up again. One i got it back home, about 2 miles, I pulled it into the driveway, and as soon as I shut it off, I tried to start it to see what would happen. Not even a click this time. I just replaced the starter and placed a new battery in it. Not even a click now. Some people are telling me it is the voltage regulator?? Any ideas. Thank you for your time.

as i am reading, in my mind im thinking starter, starter untill the end when you said you replaced the thing.... is the battery good? charged? now i dont think the new starter is a bad one....... could be...... ....voltage regulator?? possible not really...that charges. check grounds and all connections
lets see if slowroll or another tech chimes in on this one.... hang in we'll get back asap.

check flywheel teeth, starter drive, and condition of cables. You can put voltmeter on battery and check to voltage is over 13.1. Some parts stores will check charging system for free.

Default had similar problem on 70 coupe

I had a similar problem on my coupe. It turned out my alternator/gen was bad. Wasn't charging. I just converted to an internal voltage regulator alternator. and it took car of the prob. starts wonderfully every time.
