Default Purchasing 91 Caddy, need info

I am interested in purchasing a 1991 Cadillac Seville from an 80 year old man who is the original owner. The car has not been driven that much in the last 7 years. He is selling it cheap~$2000.00, because it has a few problems. It has a 4.9 engine, seems like it is missing on a cylinder. Is this engine a good engine? I understand that Cadillac had some problems with certain engines. Did not test drive yet. He claims he put a water pump in around 5 years ago, which means it might have overheated. There are a couple of other issues, freon low. I was just wondering if I am getting myself in too deep with repairs or is this a good price. The car is mint. Car has 80,000 miles

for the year and milleage the price sounds about right.if he put in a water pump 5years ago it should be fine. otherwise he would have had more repairs done in my opinion. low freon just meant a trip to the parts stor to buy a couple cans of freon and recharge the A/C. The 4.9 is a good engine very reliable and ive sen as much as 200+ miles out of theses engines. i would do a good oil change and coolant flush with a new set of plugs and wires and should run fine. Also if you think it might have blown head gaskets(car runs rough) pull off the oil cap and see if the under part of the cap has any white frothy oil on it. the check the oil dip stick too. i found this on my 92 deville (4.9 engine) and had blown headgaskets.but if everything seems good maybe offer $1700 and use the extra $300 twards a tune up.

I Just bought a 1990 with the 4.5 with only 48,000 miles. It was missing...then quit running, I had to replace all 8 injectors...$69.99 each at Autozone. I personally confirmed that all 8 injectors were bad before replacing.

That fixed the problem...but 3000 miles later, the car is acting as if all or some of the injectors have failed . Not sure yet...still de-bugging...4 so far test ok.

The dealer had wanted $2100 to replace those injectors by the way....

I only paid $500 for mine...lucky...I bought it from a good friend....but it's making me nervous...I've got over $2000 into it counting TT&L, and all that.

Good luck.
