Default 2000 SLS seized on me!

I have a 2000 SLS with 117K on the Northstar. Yesterday it made a loud noise from the engine (sounded like something broke) and stopped immediatly. I attempted to restart it but it is apparently seized. When I got out of the car oil was pouring out and it looks like all 8 quarts are on the ground. Has this happened to anyone? I'm guessing a rod broke and cracked the oil pan but I haven't looked at it yet. Wondering where i can get a new engine for reasonable as I only paid $4100 for the car to begin with but it is clean. I've rebuilt many Chevy small blocks and done a head gasket on an overhead cam engine before but this looks a little out of my league with all the cams and timing chains the Northstar has. If its not too bad of a rebuild I may consider a rebuild if its worth it. What say you?

this is the first ive ever heard of this happening. these engines are damn near bullet proof besides its famous head gasket issues they were plagued with. as for rebuilding i dont know of any rebuild kits for theses engines most people buy a salvage yard engine or new. your looking at around $2500-$3500 for engine and installation depending on the place. sorry to hear hope you figure this out.

I was reading only VIN Y 2000-2004 will fit? Is that right?

Looks like '00-'03 only works.

I'd speculate that a timing chain broke. The engine is pretty much useless if that is the case. Anyway here in Toronto you can get a engine rebuilt and installed for about $3,500.
You can try a salvage yard engine too. The computer is the key item from your current car. The SLS uses Code Y so I would stay with that engine. 2005 was an improved engine to addres the head gasket failure problem so you should use a 2000 to 2004. 2000 was also an improved design from the original 1993 engine so a 1999 and earlier is no good to you either.
