The top has always amazed me. Trying to compete with Mercedes and was killed when their top went full power. Heck, I had a '63 Falcon that had a fully power top. (see final scenes of OceanXX whan George Clooney is leaving prison).

An old time Allante wizard the Zinzindorf contends thay'd be built today if the top was power. My hard top is on for the winter. I'm with Stomper the softtop only goes up if caught in an unexpected rain .

Test driving any allante requires a ABS type stop.

Yeah, it is a bit of strange marketing strategy for a manufacturer who rightfully claimed in years best that it was the Standard of the World.

I sort of like the "convenience top" and "rain happens" references!

An update: The search is over, and we have our new (to us) Allante. It is a 1992 Pearl White w/red stripe and black interior. She is a CA car, sporting 50,000 miles on the odometer. It arrived Sunday, still bearing the CA license plates.

The initial inspection revealed a few probs, mainly with interior hardware, that will need to be addressed, but nothing major.

The initial drive revealed a car that is a veritable blast to drive! Looking forward to many enjoyable miles behind the wheel.

Just a heads up; I would not be waiting for a call from me if I were you. I made my original post in 2009!

Since then I have bought/used/sold my 1992 Allante, so no longer in the market.
