Default Tree fell on Allante while driving :(

A great sunny day ruined by a tree limb falling (while driving) and bouncing off the hood, smashing into the windshield, and taking a header off the trunk lid. Luckily I have Comprehensive. I am beyond bummed but happy to be unscathed.

Can you say windshield replacement?

sorry to hear that. years ago, my Allante also got hit by a tree branch and to this day bears three or four dents. Except mine was parked. The repair was put aside as the $500 deductible was about the cost of the repair.

what is a header in the trunk lid?

Default Limb "header"

The "header" was bouncing off the windshield and coming "straight down" on the deck lid behind me. So there is a dent in the hood, smashed windshield, and dent on the top of the read quarter panel and trunk. Mind you they are nothuge but noticeable. Like I said, I do have comprehensive with a $500 deductible.

I found a windshield in Johnny Monzo for $350. It goes to the insurance adjuster Wednesday.

Default Awaiting verdict

I am awaiting the verdict from the insurance company. They believe the cost to repair may be above the value of the car. I say, give me 8K and I'm good to go and look for another

What will $7,268 buy me? That is what they consider the value of the car to be. They (insurance adjuster) are still working up the costs of repair and see what the difference is. The body man flat-out stated he could repaint the new hood etc but it will vary in shade from the rest of the pearl white since that coat has been on and polished for 19 years.

Someone else suggested if they decide too much to repair, have them total and see if it could be purchased for salvage value and replace windshield and live with the dents (small, but there).

pictures?

insurance will usually sell the car for 20% of the totaled value .. $1,600 .. buy it back.

two choices:
1. buy a matching hood ($700), trunk lid ($300), and windshield ($200).
2. buy a high mileage 1987/1988/1989/1990 car ($1,800) with those good parts, take them off, swap them to your car, and part the rest.
3. part your car, least profitable
4. for $7,000, buy a nice 1992 "NU100XXX" hardtop series WITH a hardtop.

OK .. 4 choices ..
I personally chose #4 .. and still drive both the '88 and the '92.

Zal
Stick my modified California car in your salvage thread.

Tony, I might have the pearl trunk lid and hood for you. See the background.

Am keeping records on salvaging the Pearl White. Stealth has offered to post it when done!
