climate control issue
Fells like the heat is always on. Especially when going down the highway. The off button is pushed. Then I raise and lower the temp and that does not do much. The ac only works on high and 60 degrees. When I raise the temp just a bit, it then gets hot. Is it the head unit, and is that a big job to change?? Could it be something under the hood?? Please help -89 fleetwood brhm rwd 307[:-]

RE: climate control issue
Remove glove box liner. You will see a threaded metal rod attached to the A/C programmer. With car on, dial in 60 degrees in the AUTO mode, the rod should move towards firewall, closing the blend door in about 10 to 15 seconds. Now, dial in 90 degrees, the rod should move slowly and smoothly towards you fully opening the blend door allowing heated air in. If the rod is jerky or does not fully move, unsnap it from the plastic retainer and while at 90 degrees move the rod back and forth and snap it back into the retainer. Most times the programmer motor within the black box strips a gear and wont fully adjust. Necc to then replace the programmer. In rare cases the in car temp sensor can either fail or the black ribbed hose coming from the programmer to it gets kinked or disconnected on either end causing late or wrong temp readings. Programmers fail mainly because the system is used like a manual A/C. In other words, people constantly change the temp display drastically or the fan speed which causes the programmer motor to move in extreme arcs. eventually damaging the drive gears.
