2005 escalade 2wd ignition and door keys different - ignition key lost - help!
Hi,
Lost keys
I bought 05 cadillac escalade used in march of 07. It came with a door key and an ignition key. the seller did not tell me that the ignition key had been replaced. so when i lost the keys, i called AAA and they asked for the vin number and came out with a key (the keycode matching the vin is S178A). That key opened the door, but it won't work with the ignition.
The old ignition key S178A - I was told - is a straight key - no chip or magnet or passlock
Car is in my driveway - I spoke to the dealer - I am told that they will have to drill out the old ignition lock cylinder and then go into the steering column to replace the ignition lock cylinder - 4 hours x $125 = $500 labor and then parts $73 for the cylinder plus any other misc parts they have to replace?
I was hoping that I could (a) make a key - that is if i can remove the lock cylinder from the vehicle and then take it to a lock smith
or
(b) replace the lock cylinder (part cost $73)
I am a good DIY guy, but needs guidance!
Appreciate all help
Thanks!
