2004 Escalade towing?
Hello,
I have a 2004 Escalade AWD w/tow pkg and was wondering if anyone has used this type of truck for towing larger campers? I am looking to buy a tow hauler to haul 4 atvs. This sizes range from 21 to 28 feet long. I have heard mixed information in towing weight from 7400 pounds to 8000 pounds. Any suggestions or comments?
Thank you for your help.

RE: 2004 Escalade towing?
From the towing capacity of the EXT, I think it's comparable to a 1500 Chevy or F150 Ford in towing. From what I have seen, and people I know, it seems that it's possible to pull a toy hauler with the EXT/F150/Chevy 1500 trucks, provided you don't tow over the maximum weight recommendation. I think the tow max will also decrease when you add more weight into the truck...i.e. 5 people in the truck. Pretty much, your toy hauler just couldn't be one of those huge ones. With only 4 ATV's and the weight of the toy hauler, you should be less than the max, right? Most people around here upgrade to the 2500/3500 F250/F350 trucks for those huge toy haulers (the ones you could live in and store all your toys) Or you could get the 8.1L Avalanche...

Owners manual
Also a good weight distrubution hitch with sway control helps keep thing where they need to be.
Maximum trailer weight is calculated assuming only the driver is in the tow vehicle and it has all the required trailering equipment. The weight of additional optional equipment, passengers and cargo in the tow vehicle must be subtracted from the maximum trailer weight.
Notice: Using a fifth-wheel or goose-neck hitch device on your vehicle could damage the vehicle. The repairs would not be covered by your warranty. Do not use a fifth-wheel or goose-neck hitch device on your vehicle.
Vehicle AWD 6.0L
Axle Ratio 3.73
Max Trailer Weight 7,400 lbs (3357 kg)
**GCWR 14,000 lbs. (6350 kg)
**The Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) in the total allowable weight of the completely loaded vehicle and trailer including any passengers, cargo, equipment and conversions. The GCWR for your vehicle should not be exceeded.

RE: 2004 Escalade towing?
I tow an enclosed car trailer with Corvette, tires and tools, about 7600 lbs total, in an ESV. My suggestion is to beef up the trans by putting in a Corvette servo and a billit overdrive servo. These can be purchased and install for under 350. This beefs up the trans to run in OD without the constant down shift/up shift and gives extra muscle when taking off. Also, I would find someone to tune the PCM for towing..requires 91 octane. With that I find the truck runs best at about 76 mph....on flat to rolling road I get 10.5+ mpg. Also, do all the info above that FLCaddytech suggests.

Brother you need to NOT use your Escalade to tow big draggers. The tranny in the Escalade is NOT AN ALLISON. You will burn that thing up over 5-6 years easy. Grab ya 3500 dually with a 5th wheel let the caddy live for what it is made for looking good and hauling the family around.
