1997 Eldorado PCM code....
Hi guys,
I just bought a 1997 Eldorado and I love it. So much luxury and it rides great. Big difference from the compact Eclipse Turbo I sold two days earlier. First thing I noticed was the "Service Engine Soon" light was on but the car was so cheap I didn't care and decided to buy it anyway...
I checked the codes and then cleared them. As soon as I turned the car back on the light switched on again. The code it displayed is the same one I cleared before, it's P1660. Which I believe is the "Cooling Fan Control Circuits" code. That makes sense because I also noticed that as soon as I turn the ignition switch to the "on" position the radiator cooling fan will turn on even with the car not running. Does that mean someone hooked up a jumper wire to the fan? Could it be a relay or coolant sensor that is stuck?
I've been up for 4 hours reading the forum threads learning as much as I can before deciding to post this thread so that I wouldn't ask a question that has been answered a million times already. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the Cad forum!
Could be that the relay is stuck, but your theory on someone "hot wiring" the fan could also be possible. Could also be a short in the wiring. Does the fan(s) run on high speed, or low?

Since this is my first Cadillac I don't really know the difference between high and low speed. Everything else on the car works great so I don't think it could be a short but who knows. If the fan was hot wired would it bring up the Fan Circuit code on the computer or does it only pick up a fault if something goes wrong with a relay or sensor? Where are the fan relays, are they right next to the air cleaner box beside the fuses? Have you heard of a fan relay or temp sensor causing something like this? So many questions, so little time....
Thanks
Thanks
