Default 1978 Coupe DeVille

I just won an auction for a 1978 Caddy Coupe DeVille on eBay! White over white, 169,000 miles, all electrical works, runs and drives, a little surface rust here and there. Paid $550 for it.

My question is, did I get a good deal? I haven't seen the car in person yet, so I can't say for myself if I did. I've never owned a Caddy before, so I don't really know much about them. I've always wanted one, though.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Also wondering if these cars had any problem areas?

Congradulations on your car! Was it a good deal remains to be seen, you won't know that till you get it. 77-80 deVille/Fleetwoods weren't bad cars, but it is 32 years old so how it was cared for usually is a major factor in "Did I get a good deal".

I should be picking it up on Friday, so we'll see then.

The guy I'm buying it from says that it runs and drives very wall, but it could use a carb kit and a tune-up, which is a given for any older car, really. He says it should make the hour long trip back home without an issue. We'll have to wait and see, I suppose.

So I picked up the car today, and drove it for an hour home without a hitch!

The body has some surface rust here and there, but it's solid, and has NO dents, or dings. Interior has seen better days. The drivers side is missing a chunk of carpet and the armrest is cracked and falling apart, as is the dash.

The car runs well enough, except for a rough idle that I can't seem to pinpoint a cause of.

Overall, for $550 I think I got a good enough deal. I love the car, and I'm looking forward to putting in some work and getting in better shape.
