I have had this car about a month, i bought it, tuned everything up and drove it from virginia to mississippi with no flaw. once i hit mississippi, the water pump went bad and i changed it out and checked and double checked it to make sure i did it correctly. on a test drive, i was doing fine. i stopped at a buddies house and then headed back. on the way back i stopped and started again and it would not shift to 3rd or O drive. It has the 4.9L v8 FWD. I thought it might be the bands so i ran some transX through it with no benefit and the filter and fluid are fresh. Any idea what could cause this? i have not hooked up the obd 1 and i have no lights on in the dash. anyone have any ideas on where i should start. i am not a transmission guy. thanks

 

It is electric shift, so check for codes.

 

We seem to be having the same problems on different year model cars. with luck maybe the fix will be the same. But after reading that you had water pump troubles i have an idea. Check that big round plug on your transmission wire harness located between the front of your transmission and the radiator for moisture in it. I read a post on another site where a lady washed her car with a pressure washer and experienced the same issue. she took the plug apart and sprayed it with electrical contact cleaner and her problem was solved. Was coolant spraying in your engine compartment when your water pump failed??

 

I have the electronic climate control so do i still use the obd 1 code reader or some other reader? Water did not go all over the motor, it just leaked out of the bottom. i will try the plug tomorrow and see since its finally getting warm enough.
