'09 Escalade Transmission - sloppy shifts occasional flares between 2-3
As posted are my complaints. I have had it in under warranty at 40k km. They replaced some seals and that was supposed to fix the flares between shifts. Did not solve the problem.
Do they all lag like this between gears and seem sloppy? I had a custom PCM tune for my last truck and can't remember if it was this bad. Sometimes the pause between shifts is almost like driving a standard. Is the TM set so high that it lags the shifts like this?

You should NEVER feel anything that could be described as a "flair" on a shift. That's a problem with either one clutch pack/band releasing too soon, or a clutch pack/band not applying quickly enough, or a combination of the two.
Any later model vehicle has what is called a "torque reduction" program to reduce the "feel" of the shifts, and make them smoother. This involves a combination of retarding the timing, reducing the fuel injection pulse, and the line pressure of the trans. I hate the way a late model vehicle shifts...it almost feels like you let up off of the accelerator pedal before the shift. It just don' feel right to me, but...I'm an old fart, and I LIKE feeling the shifts...the harder the better!
The flair may or may not be program related, but it is certainly possible. Worn clutches, a bad solenoid, or one that is slow to respond to the commands, or a worn bore in the valve body can also cause this. If you still have a warranty, I would suggest you take it back and insist that they correct it. If there is no warranty left, you probably should take it to a transmission specialist/shop for further diagnosis. Be aware, however, that any trans shop you go to is likely to try to sell you a trans overhaul, whether you really need it or not. It's a sad state, but that's how it is these days. Very few are willing to do "minor" repairs...

As I have about 35k miles on it, it is well within warranty and will soon be returning to have the problem addressed by the dealer. I will use the info you gave me to help make him think I really know more than I do. They have replaced the seal kit once already with an updated one. We shall see what they say next.
