There are so many Allante cars FOR SALE, it is unbelievable.
Every Cadillac Allante model year, 1987 1988 1989 1990 1990.5 1991 1992 1993 1993 V4J
All seven year models look alike, small cosmetic differences, but huge technology leaps, three different engines, four different transmissions, two different audio systems, etc. The two highlighted models, IMO come equipped with the best standard OEM equip.
Both the Hard Top series of the "10" sequence and the soft top series of the "12" sequence.

There are also a lot of facts there describing the differences between the different Allante cars.

I know some are listed more than once, but the numbers are mind boggling.
That may well be about 1/10 of the surviving Allantes.
Also, each week we are now seeing several cars parted. a handful of new ones each and every week.
The salvage yards have a bunch. 2 years ago, it was difficult to fine even one, not anymore.

Dont agree to pay the outrageous prices for salvage yard parts that were being charged three years ago, the market has changed in favor of you, the buyer. Prices of parts are down by as much as 70% as compared with only two years ago.
Often, the myth of the "hard to get" Allante parts is supported by people's ignorance of the market.
Its your money, the salvage yards would very much like to take as much as they can ...

Much of the technolgy that you enjoy in the later model GM cars, was born there with the Allante. Some of it, was too expensive to flow down, and you wil find it only in the Allante models, and some of it not even on the last year model.

Cadillac Allante listings in ebay ..
This evening ebay has 11 of the 1993 models, 3 of the 1992 models and 13 of the 1987 to 1991 cars
Total of 27 cars.
As usual, there are as many 1993 models changing hands as all of the other 6 model years put together.
Why this conflict of which Allante is the best? the best, for the most part, dont get swapped or traded in ...

I think that other than the fact that there were more '93s made than any other year - is the fact that the '93s don't get parted out as much as the older cars. There will get to be fewer and fewer of the other years available as they get sacrificed to keep the others on the road. With the older years - 87-92 - their parts are worth more than a 'low to medium' grade car, so they get parted out - rather than sold as a whole car on eBay. The '93s are still worth more as a whole car, in almost any condition, except wrecked, then their raw parts are worth.
So, looking at the '87 years - the cars are 7 years older than the '93s, are having major problems, expensive to fix, or not running at all - so rather than sell the whole car on eBay, and maybe get $1,500 - part it out - get maybe double that, and don't feel bad selling someone a fix-up nightmare.
A '93, even pretty rough right now is going for 4-5 thousand. Parts maybe worth 3000, still smarter to sell the whole car.

The serious buyer that has done his research recognizes the problems possible with the electronics, brakes, and top.
He is looking for the "extra" clean and obviously well garage kept car prferrably from an "original" owner.
History should indicate value, along with maintanance records. Unfortunately these cars came with ten year warranties so a lot of factory work done was not recorded by the usual owriginal owner who when a problem developed just brought the car back to the dealer, accepted a "loaner" and picked it back up when it was fixed. (My car, from an original owner who relied on her memory when she "guessed" work was done.)
You have to gamble here, but also have to read between the lines and check out the interior for abuse, and location where the car spent it's life.
You have a good selection on Craigs, and "E" bay but the super clean car that is causing very few problems in it's history will be found in local advertisements, and somewhere an exceptionally clean car will still sell at a "good" price. (never a profitable one)
Brian Bray's car, sold several years ago comes to mind. An "88" sold at a premium price to someone who recognised the car from the Allante net. Brian got "top" dollar for his car because it was immaculate and he had, and advertised, maintanence records from "day one." Agreed on all points. I have highlighted the definition of "top $ " .. Yes, they are out there, but those are the rare sales, not the routine. But for a fast price comparison, this link works wonders. IF one sees a high price sale, go and look at the details and see why that is so.
To clarify, the link below will show one every ended sale, including auctions pulled, cars sold and delivered, transactions completed. if you look in the feedback you may see the complaints if any were filed (something that is not always possible). As someone said not long ago, there are a lot, and I mean a lot of sick and abused Allantes on the market. There are also many Allante cars FOR-SALE with bad titles, flood cars, salvaged cars, and a variety of issues that are not disclosed.
It is an absolute minefield that has been made more volatile as the market of the Allante plunged in the past 24 months. People hording cars are suddenly stuck with a expensive inventory that are now wanting to dump and often lie about the condition of the cars in order to recuperate their "investment."
Buying an Allante is risky business .. but the prices are such that the risks are being taken.
My latest acquisition will require about 50% of the purchase price to bring it to a "good" rating. Not excellent, just "good" .. and that is OK .. for me, it is a daily beat around town car. For a "collector minded, is not hard to expect spending a sum equal to the purchase price to bring the car to a show car condition.

Amazing that a lot of the "cheepos" are now being picked up by a completely new market and mainly because they are "cheap."
What I find interesting is that most of the new owners have found the "AllanteNet" and are asking the same questions with the same problems we did years ago!
Actually, nothing seems to have changed except for the price and the owners! ( I think this is a good thing as when the new group discovers the expense of the problems and because the "cheepo" value is worth more at a salvage yard, many more will become available for the parts we will need over the years.)

If you really look at your list of 25 cars - there is actually only 7, many of the listings repeat over and over again (unless you really think that there are 4 '93 Green Allantes in your area for sale with exactly 4,951 miles going for $31,995) There are many, many repeats - the gold in Signal Hill (the worse repeat offender with 10 listings) actually has a couple of different prices, I guess depending on where you looked that day you could get it for $4,977 or $8,977...
There are a lot for sale right now - but, just Googling gives you a ton of duplicate listings - as shown in your example above.

In one of the previous posts in this thread, I did make it clear that there were multiple listings for the same cars.
You are a new Allante owner, but if you could compare what we are seeing today with what I saw in 2002, you would fall off the chair in shock.
It took me over 3 months to find a SINGLE Allante in the So CA area and I grabbed it. I wasnt even looking for a Black, I was ready to settle for any year model, any color but I wanted a local sale.
Today, any day, I have a pick of many, all years, all colors, except one. For some odd reason, finding the NU10XXXX '92 Triple Black Hard Top model in So CA eluded me all these years. I had to cross State lines to accomplish that. Maybe that particular model was simply not sold in So Ca. In fact, my new acquisition, was not even sold in the US .. if you remember, MY '92 .. she is Canadian .. with a interesting traveling history ...

Exactly what you are seeing is what is creating a massive Allante parts market. In 2002, no Allante was to be considered a parts car since any car that was not a complete wreck was worth $4k PLUS, more than the value of parts. When we did see one being parted, we were all in grief as if someone had died.
Today, people buy the cars for $1,000 or even less thinking they are going to "FIX" them .. they are quickly hit by reality of the value of parts and next thing that happens is that the car gets parted.
Remember Lee from Las Vegas? His '92 ( or '91) was "totaled" because the insurance company was unable to obtain a GRILL. There was nothing much wrong with his car other than a ding on the edge of the hood. Today, grills are out there, bumpers have gone from $1,800 to $400. Other things have gone the other way, like the headlights, but most parts have stayed at a steady price or declined in value.
YES, expect more and more and more parts cars. Expect the rate to go from 4 per week to 7 maybe 9 per week. At this point and time, the attrition rate is very high, specially for the '88, '91, & '92 models. No, I havent got a clue why.

The rear pull-down top motor had to be replaced.The passenger side 'quick down' window regulator was replaced.The automatic 'up-down' radio aerial motor was replaced.The crankshaft sensor and MAP (http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_41080.html#) sensor were replaced.The fourth range up-shift solenoid kit and attendant computer chip had to be replaced. Dealer on first try failed this installation completely!The drive train computer had to be replaced.The CD read head no longer works. This is a $600.00 plus repair.The vehicle (http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_41080.html#) has inexplicably 'gone dead' two times and had to be trucked into the dealer for service.
General comments?
This vehicle is a liability and I am earnestly in process to get rid of it.
Cadillac (http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_41080.html#) Division of General Motors deserves a huge expletive for allowing this machine to be sold.

"Beautiful 1993, fun, but dangerous"
What things have gone wrong with the car? If the automobile sits in the sun and car temperature goes up, the doors refuse to unlock from inside and the driver and passenger cannot exit the car. This happened also on my 1991 Allante. It is a potentially dangerous situation. Cadillac knows and has published info and manufactured a replacement part which can no longer be obtained. Should be a recall.

Also says I need washer fluid which was filled. I'd like to take a hammer to that panel! And I can't read the digital speedometer, it comes on when it feels like it. Sun visors are loose.Seat-belts are a horror story! Motor for the top does not work, you have to manually push it down and hope it locks in place.

So many problems for a Cadillac (http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_13930.html#) that started out at $65,000.00. Thank God we got it in a trade deal and did not pay much for it. I will have fun with it for awhile then dump it

I ask, in the hopes I am missing something. Is there a way to search Craig's list for -ALL- Allantes, wherevever they may be be in the U S of A? Or, do you really spend hours searching the listings city/area by city/area? That could take a lifetime!
