I have now had my 2006 3.6l 18"wheel package caddie for three months and am ready to get with the modifications. Besides a K&N intake, which added 15 hp at the wheels, the car is stock.....if you can call it that. The car handles like its on rails and besides the brakes the suspension has very similar dimensions as the V. I was wondering if anyone knows the exact wieght of those 18" wheels, the nine spoke ones, that are on the car. From what i have found a set of 4 is 150lbs!!!! What the hell was cadilac thinking putting a 37.5lbs per rim wheel on this car. No wonder im posting 1/4 times slower than my honda accord coupe with similar mods. I was looking at getting some nice asa wheels weighting in at 23.4lbs......cutting roughly 50lbs out of the drivetrain........can anyone back this thought up? thx.

I don't know what the factory wheels weigh, but I agree that this is an important part of vehicle dynamics. Look for forged wheels, plus spun rim sections to make a major weight difference. Why would Cadillac not do this from the factory? My speculation: cost.

[8D] I am running forged rims that are 16 lbs/ea with tires 40 lbs/ea. Total for rims and tires = 160 lbs.

Of course forged rims will set you back more than regular rims, so I go with the expense factor as the reason Cadillac did not opt for them. However, Cadillac does make a forged rim as an accessory for the STS, which I do not know if it will fit the CTS because of offset issues:
