View Full Version : Cadillac automatic transmission life
Stealth 10-05-2007, 05:19 PM Meaning, how many miles did your Cadillac transmissions go before it wore or broke?
A minor repair, count it as still going.
Reset your count at zero with an overhaul, but not with a minor repair such as a solenoid R&R.
jons95sls 09-01-2009, 08:53 AM how many miles will they go?an why did they create such a crappy trans for what you pay for these cars.
92_Daddylac 09-01-2009, 04:20 PM im at 93k and still going but thats not to say something could go wrong. I just recently changed fluid and used some lucas which will help the trany live a better life. (I almost sound like the infomercial with that old man) LOL. anyways did you have problems with you.
jons95sls 09-02-2009, 08:31 AM yep i got a sls and mine has 211,989 miles on the car,1 owner.i got a slite prob with the trans,it was rebuilt about a year an half ago, shifts weird, they say its a sol,in trans but not sure i posted a question, but no reply yet.
slowroll 09-02-2009, 07:17 PM I lost the shift solenoids at 127k, pretty minor repair - 94 ETC
joshr45 10-08-2009, 02:34 PM ive lost 2 1991 4T60E's around 120-138k miles im in the process of pulling the working car's transmission and having it rebuilt, the working car's transmission wouldnt have went except it had a cooler leak, the lines rusted through and broke off while i was driving so the transmission burned up, my other car's transmission still "works" technically you just have to shift it manually into first to get it to move
STSevilleSTS 11-09-2009, 12:06 PM 95 seville sts has 160,000 miles on it now. I am the 2nd owner not sure if the transmission has ever been serviced but the last owner took very good care of the vehicle. I have been thinking of pulling pan changing the filters and replacing only the fluid that came out but Im kind of afraid that may cause a problem. I think I will post a thread on that.

that should not be a problem .. but do not flush it, or all bets are off.
i be adding a bottle of LUCAS when you refill.
.
STSevilleSTS 11-09-2009, 12:34 PM Ok thanks for reply. So pump out some fluid before adding the Lucas so not to overfill, add the Lucas and drive around for a week then drain, change filter, fluid and add another bottle of Lucas? I have seen the question asked before but no answer--About how many quarts total will come out when taking the pan off and the drain plug inside?

yes, i would and do all that.
as to how much fluid you need? well, when i do it i make sure i got a full case by my side and i have never needed more than that .. I say from 6 to 10 quarts?

STSevilleSTS 11-09-2009, 03:14 PM Ive been reading about adding Lucas transmission fix. After reading many forums etc. I am kind of hesitant to add it to a transmission that is showing no problems. Anyone care to give more opinions on this? Like i said my transmission has 160,000 miles on it and is still working fine.
anypeassiff 12-27-2009, 06:02 PM Um Yes would have to say that isnt safe at all. It could cause damage to the transmission seals and maybe the transmission itself eventually
