According to the Los Angeles Times six cars were crushed to death after courts (apparently side-stepping the Fourth Amendment) gave police the okay to do so. The crushed cars had one thing in common, they all contained stolen parts. In the case of Charles Hoang and the transmission in his 350 hp Acura Integra, he had unknowingly purchased the hot goods. Hoang had the receipt, but the cops -- taking a zero-tolerance stand -- literally could not have cared less about said do***entation, and Hoang's car was fed to the maw. We think this whole thing stinks, so we're going to speed home and pour out a 40 oz on the sidewalk in mourning. – Jonny Lieberman

In the state of Florida, pedestrian injuries related to street racing has increased by 222% from 1999 to 2001. The leading cause of death for people ages 16-20 is automobile accidents. National averages show that for every 1000 street racers, there are 49 innocent by-standers who are injured or killed.
Del Worsham, NHRA Funny Car (http://www.moddedmustangs.com/street-racing.html#) Driver, stated “If you want to be a drag racer, take it to a track.” The youth complains of a lack of tracks to race on, therefore, in their eyes, justifying their illegal actions. Yet there are over 140 NHRA tracks in North America, and a similar amount of IHRA and independent tracks. So now that the truth is out and kids have no more excuses, how can we pursuade them not to street race?
All you need to race on an NHRA (http://www.moddedmustangs.com/street-racing.html#) track is: Valid driver’s license
Valid vehicle (http://www.moddedmustangs.com/street-racing.html#) registration and insurance
DOT-approved street legal tires (http://www.moddedmustangs.com/street-racing.html#)
Seat belts (http://www.moddedmustangs.com/street-racing.html#)

"My daughter, Emily Ranyak , 18 years old, honor IB student was killed in a street racing crash April 02, 05 in Central Florida. Imagine, the driver of the car was famous Marco Andretti's best friend. The Homicide report spoke very clearly, two dead teenagers and a family of four who were airlifted to the local hospital and two others very seriously injured. No Charges filed against the other Racer.... Our lives have been shattered by the sudden and violent death of our precious daughter. Racing culture of Central Florida; Wake up!!! Speed Kills and we are loosing our most precious gifts of life for the thrill of nothing more than Roman Paganism."
PLANO -- A Plano Senior High School student was killed today and another teen injured after their car crashed shortly after they left school for lunch.
Police say the victims were riding in a red 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse that was speeding down Park Boulevard with another car, a black Ford Mustang. It appears one vehicle clipped the other, causing the Mitsubishi to smash sideways into a utility pole.
Reasons why people street-race, states CHP Sergeant Matt Boothe, range from younger drivers possessing 'invincibility complexes' to the availability of low-cost small, high-performance vehicles like modified Acuras.
Other laws in California dealing with the issue allow Los Angeles County police officers to confiscate and destroy such vehicles.

people keep asking me why i made it soooo difficult for my kid to drive until he was 19+ .. survival !
and even then, to help get a car that was far from being considered "cool" or a "racer" .. a car that others
would not care to dare.
my kids aspire to the keys of my muscle cars .. HELL NO, not even around the block ...
