Hi,

So I guess I am "officially" here... Thanks Stealth...

I have a '93 allante (only year) - a few mods... exhaust, sound, don't know what is next - some paint perhaps...

Oh, I have never owned a Camaro - let alone a red one... by this you can deduce that my name is not....

I have tried to upload photos - I have done it before here - but something weird is happening - maybe someone can clean it up...

Seller's shot, best time to be in a convertible, and my summer tatt (the sport compact guys insisted...)

So, Stealth,

You really want to race... sweet cheeks?

Anytime...

So long as you don't have some deep dark secret in that garage of yours... I'll take on that Porsche Cabriolet you have tucked away any day - but, if it is a GT2 - well...

But, you know, I do love the old In 'N Out.....

Burgers - right - we are talking burgers here aren't we...;)

garage? havent you heard?
"THE CAVE" My Allante lives in a cave!

we are talking Allante vs Allante, Red vs Black
promise to leave that imaginary GT3 at home .. you did mean GT3, right?

I tried to race with the G.A.R.Y. but next thing i know,
it was no longer Allante vs Allante

sooo .. we are talking Allante vs Allante.
All your ponies wont help you running the Angeles Crest Hwy ...
It be all SKILL ! ! !

GT2 - 0 to 60 - 3.77

GT3 - 0 to 60 - 4.5

Heck the Allante couldn't even get near 'em... either of them...

Your Allante lives in a cave? Poor thing...

But, about Angeles Crest Highway - give a girl chance - I'll take you on Independence Pass - I'll probably need that 12,000 + elevation to even out the odds....

19 miles to the summit from Aspen, and more curves than...

No In 'N Out joints here in Colorado - though I am sure we could come up with a creamy vanilla shake or two...

Especially since I am winning this one...cheeks...

ahh no poor thing here .. my Black Stealth unit loves the cave .. been there for 4 years and sneaks out unseen at dusk.

4.5 .. 3.77 ? 0 to 60mph?
what is that with engine screaming around hairpin turns, 12 ft wide road, 400ft off-road drops, gravel covered tar mat,
and running straights of 45 yards?

we need acceleration rating of 30 to 45 mph, stopping distances, tar mat friction, and above all -- SKILL !
primal skills to let it rip.

the Allante may not be able to smell the fumes off the GT's in Aspen, but the Angeles Crest Highway,
Independence Pass is not. Here, if you hit 60 mph, you die. You get a choice to plow into the hillside
or to jump the dirt shoulder on the outside, just before the 400 ft drop-off, hidden by the native weeds
and brush .

Did i mention the never ending sliding gravel, rocks, and occasional 4ft boulders off the mountain side?
ohh, and the "BLACK ICE" ?
Manual shifting the transmission is an absolute, non-negotiable necessity. Skill girl .. SKILL !

so ... In n out ?
or should i just flap my elbows ?

ha - I laugh at your 400 foot drop offs - and you have a whole 12 feet to work with - i have been on the old Angeles Crest - you haven't seen nothing yet...

Independence pass is one of the highest paved roads in the united states - with 1000 foot drops... hairpins you can only dream off, and then there is the view...

Don't worry, I can out accelerate you - out turn you - and well, anything else you want to see if I can out (you fill in the blank) do you?

and, if the mystical Z06 shows up - well, I just guess we will see who flinches first...

ohh ohh ohhhh, nice .. you do know how to find things. very nice indeed. i'm impressed.

i gather you can find the Angeles Crest then? my darn elbows were starting to flap . but now
i see, I best give the fox a 2nd chance.

i couldnt help notice in them pics of yours, the lack of rocks, the nice smooth tar mat.
nice conditions for a not so skilled .. nice indeed.

i couldnt help notice that after all that searching, you found ONE hairpin turn .. of 180 degrees,
nice but not much compared to the dozens of 270 degree hairpins at he Crest Hwy .. but still, nice.

dont forget, it snows in both .. [sm=forgetit.gif]

sorry .. you trying to choke my 4100 with O2 starvation?
http://procario.org/blosxom/Independence_pass_sign.jpg
is not the car i be worrying about, if i was you .. not the car.

fox, run the Crest so i can see where you need a bit of help ..
The Crest, where anything much over 45 mph, kills.

no doubt you saw this report ..scared you? dont rattle and shake, it is gettign safer.
as i said before, a Cannonball style race?

"The steepest grade of any part of the Angeles Crest - Angeles Forest Highway" is found just above I-210, as SR2 "climbs the alluvial slope at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains". (GFG)

Unfortunately, this beautiful road is also the most dangerous road in California (http://www.aemj.org/cgi/content/abstract/7/5/484-b) "based on miles traveled"! This statement, was printed in the L.A. Times on 8/4/04, A14.

Beginning in June 1999, a special $100,000 state safety grant has produced intensive enforcement of all traffic laws on the Highway along a specially-patrolled 38 mile section. This includes zero tolerance for the speed limit, the failure to turn on headlights in the special safety zone, or going over the yellow line. As a result, 1400 tickets were written from June 1999 through May 2000, 5-10 times the normal amount, with most written on the weekends.
Deaths and injuries have dropped by a factor of two on this 38 mile section, from an average of five deaths and 66 injuries per year from 1995-1999 to two deaths and 32 injuries in the last year. It won't surprise anyone who has driven on the highway that motorcyclists were involved in 47% of the accidents in 1995-1998, despite being less than 3% of all registered vehicles.

Hey, I did say I needed an advantage - I am not that silly...

That is why the altitude - muscling this front wheel beast around hairpins isn't going to be easy for me.. I am not that skilled... In hairpin turns... I have other skills...;)

And yes, Independence only has about a dozen of them - if I remember right...

I was just trying to level the playing field - I do like to win... And go fast...

And, plenty of rock slides - we are just smart enough to close the road from first big snow until the end of May.

because these do break off...

The z06 is mystical only for the moment. However if you want to go now I will borrow my friends z06 pushing around 700hp. Mine will be stock............................................. .................for a while after I get it. However in the meantime I would use the c06 raqgtop auto that I have now. Will handle much better then the Stealth, and not sure but I believe I may have a bit more experience??

I hear a lot of talking between you 2. It's time for action. I will arrange for the video crew, and will personally be there to kiss the winner. Obviously you now know who I think is going to win...

In the meantime, keep up the banter. Others may be entertained.

hey fox, i thought all along you had the power advantage with all them extra ponies under the hood ..
not that such makes your '93 into a beast - or a sure winner. You wanna see a BEAST, i can pull out
MY Beast which happens to be a '86 RED "Fox" ragtop unit, modified combustion, suspension tuned,
mod exhaust, RWD .. problem is, the DMV grounded her - for now.

however, we are talking Allante vs Allante, no?
what i wasnt counting on, was them "other skills" ..
something tells me, i may well be beat
before the running starts. then again, maybe not.

FYI - since you eluded to experience?

i got my first dozen tickets on that stretch of the Crest,
i got my first DMV excees points warning letter cuz of that stretch, in the Crest,
i laid down two scooters on that stretch, of the Crest,
i abandoned one of them while it tumbled down an embankment, of the Crest,
i proudly wear battle scars, complements of the Crest Hwy,
i drove that Crest stretch faithfully, at dawn, every Sunday since i got my license, until i stopped,
i got hit (notice i didnt hit) three times, once at an accident scene (not mine) while the CHP watched, on the Crest,
i helped rescued kids more than once, from cars that had their wheels not on the tar mat of the Crest,
i thrown bleeding drivers, victims of the Crest, into the back seat for a run to the ranger station,
i initiated more than one date along the Crest Hwy, with the City lights distant below,
the Crest Hwy, IS memory lane.

as you might remember, i parked the scooter, permanently on a promise ?
What i should have promised instead, is to stay of the Crest Hwy instead, cuz THAT was the
real issue .. instead i got talked into parking the scooter. But .. my word is my word !

I have not stressed an engine on the Crest for awhile, so rusty i may be .. but when it comes to
experience, well, there you have it .. i have but a short 11 more years until my "scooter promise"
expires .. damn ! Where will you be then?

do what to the winner?
euwwwwwww .. i aint, NOT, into that ... eeuuwwwwwwwwww !

then again, fox does mention "other" skills ... so, maybe the race is not quite in the bag ...
ohh boy, now i remember why it is soooo difficult to win a race against a girl .. and she well knows it.
damn ! She well knows it !

At any case, my Stealth unit is fully fueled waiting on fox !
to run only at shift change .. CHP shift change that is.
one clears the stretch and then go with stopwatch.
car vs car - NOT! the law will confiscate.
even Cannonball style or holding at posted, fox will sweat, on them hairpins,
never forgetting, the CHP lurks in the shadows..
at least, so far, no cams that i know ..

Hey, I may have the ponies, but, I certainly don't have that much experience...

And I know that on a stretch of road that you have soooo much experience on Stealth, I wouldn't have a chance...

I have made the trek up Independence only about 20 times - hardly a great deal of experience, and haven't been up there at all in the last couple of years (never in the caddy). I thought maybe we could play a little more fair - some hairpins - and lots of curves along with some nice stretches of straight aways.

Although, when it comes to CHP - I do have a slight advantage - only one speeding ticket - drat, and that was in the last 2 months - in the caddy (I knew I should have never gotten a red one) - but I batted my eyes, held back a tear or two and got the 25+ over down to 9 over. The last time I was caught was in the 914-6 (I would have challenged you, and won, even with no experience, on the crest easily in that - with almost anything you had to throw at it, except a bike) and then - no ticket, just a stern warning - and 'drive home safely...'

So, GARY - when I get my caddy to California - I'll challenge Stealth - wait for that CHP shift change, show him my other "skills" (if I am lucky I'll be able to postpone the race until he can't walk;)), and you can video tape the victor - and collect that kiss... (cameras off then please)...

And I have never sweated holding at posted...

so what if i cant walk .. i'll be driving, not walking ..
i dont like straights, but curves is another matter ..

tell you what .. we'll use an off-shoot of the Crest, unlikely CHP,
only 4 miles or so, point to point. less than 12 ft accross,
less than 45 yard straights, all on a 60% grade, no rails, no nothing.
altitude, a mere 4,000 ft, plenty of O2 for either car.

we run only uphill, and ONLY uphill. downhill will surely scratch your
gorgeous Red Allante. TRUST ME, i should know.
IF you are good, you will come in under 15 seconds behind me,
IF you arent that good, i have to double back and rescue a damsel in distress.
here, YOU WILL SWEAT .. GUARANTEED !
Everyone does .. but it is quick and over soon.

something tells me i'm in trouble here even before the race starts !
i may just as well, start thinking about the consolation prize ..

video crew? where ? helicopter?
there aint no way in hell you can video tape there.
not so sure even a helicopter can do it.
if they could, it be done already in a film.
maybe dash mounted cams, maybe that be the only way.
problem is, if the CHP stops by, they got it all on film ..
not good, not good ...

fox,

i have recovered from the foot associated shock ... my heartbeat has leveled off .. took
a little longer than expected.

be adviced that my goo'ol buddy, G.A.R.Y., gets motion sickness and altitude
sickness, among other things. There is a reason he lives in the swamp lands.
You are going to need the 30 min headstart his riding his dead weight in the car,
hanging out the window.

Additionally, i offered a 20 sec handicap for driving with stilettos, then you come
along and present me with kitten heels? ohhh common ... lets be fair. the feet
and legs .. err ... GULP ! .. ... but the kitten heels, well, they are kitten heels.

tell you what. as long as you gonna be that way., i got a matched pair of
10-speeds, up the 4 mile Crest off-shoot, uphill, G.A.R.Y can just jog
behind with the video cam and carry the water.

same consolation prize works for me. besides, riding a bike & trailing behind ..
ohhhh .. what am i thinking .. ohhh ... where is that bottle of heart meds ?.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, my idea of handling a mountain road would be in Pa while deer hunting in the snow in a rented deville. I like to rent a white one so with 3 deer tied to the roof there is some red color contrast.

Now as to bursting a bubble, let me say it again, if the view is good (an assumption at this point, of course) I have no problem riden shot gun. Notice I didn't say for how long, but it would be for long enough.

you did catch the length of the straights? the hairpins?

about the only thing you are going to be doing, IF you ride shot gun, is hanging on for
dear life while FOX, DRIFTS in that '93, one wheel on the cliff's edge and the rear bumper
scuffing the hillside as the car DRIFTS around each hairpin.

Should FOX really decide to "drive" that road instead of drifting, FOX will need considerable
more time than the 20 second handicap, to reach the top.

i assume FOX can DRIFT, since there was some mentions of that, in the driving resume.
we're talking some hard duty on that trani, hand shifted between 1st and 2nd and back,
that N* revving 5k to 6k non-stop, not to mention the rubber and brakes. you know, them
brakes that you eluded were not needed? .. hellooooooo !

i love it .... .... win or lose, i win.
Top prize ... or ... Consolation prize !

i love it ...

you kidding?

In the history of mankind, no spike has ever clashed with a mini skirt, EVER, unless the wearer
exceeds 150+ lbs or is a transvestite - i can assure that last item does not apply here.

Additionally, my engineering proffesional mathematical analysis of the shown spikes is that the wearer, fox,
cannot possibly be near that weight limit. You dont get out much, do you?

However, the look may and often create a crash to the viewer .. but this is a "ENTER at your own RISK" item.

Dude, clash was refering to color. Thought that might provoke another pic with more then just the shoes. I think it's either too late or too early for you during the last 2 posts, get another cup of jaba. Besides you know me better then that, you just need to figure out my agenda.

Color?
a fox, this fox, any fox .. sitting a la miniskirt, stilettos a la pie .. COLOR? i'm color blind ...
i can easily ignore the book's cover, real easily, if it comes to that.

then again, seeing the fox's mini skirt and the stilettos would be a nice change.
will have to wait and see if fox provides that .. yep .. i can dig that, special if
fox is wearing such..

jabba .. well, one cant have enough of a good fresh brew ...

sooo .. drift exp?

Although - drifting a front wheel drive car is pretty silly...

Fox,

an easy ride to the Crest .. not the Crest offshoot in question. skip the 1st 1 min and 20 seconds.
Take a RIDE to the CREST (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FpTutqFmWg)

Next is the sort of riding that taught Stealth the value of life. My guess, these riders are pulling maybe 60 mph or a bit more, but not by much. Do watch for the knees riding the tar mat - these guys are riding at the edge of the envelope. There is no margin for gravel, animals, rocks, etc. There is a reason this 10 mile section has been declared the deadliest stretch of highway in the state of California.
The 45 mph posted is for the "straight ways" .. the loops are lower, MUCH lower .. 20 or 15 mph. I hope you dont get "motion sickness". Turn the volume up, and hang on ..
A FASTER Ride to the CREST Part 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLf2bjsXNBA)

A FASTER RIDE .. PART 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y-EvGrP63s)

Couldnt find this kind of stuff for the Crest, so use yor imagination, add the cliffs, the rocks, the fence rails .. From someone that's been there ...
WHEN things GO WRONG (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkJwMtxE9PI)

I am still looking for a Crest offshoot clip. The Offshoot makes that road on the clips look like child's play.

Stomper -
I think that they replaced the bushings that rotate with standard stock rubber - no squeaks - and the ones that compress with poly - so I get that extra bit of bite...

Heck - the Crest beckons - this thing sticks like glue, with the new wider tires, and the wonderful work they did on the suspension - I think I could take you...

Fox,

Do I take that as a ... hmmm .. challenge ... ?
How did stomper .. err .. got into the Crest event ?
I cant see running his 4x4 on the Crest, then again, he could
just by pass the paved road and hit it straight downhill on the dirt.

BTW, tell me that you have watched the clips above ...

This could be fun to watch

Fox,

How confident are you? enough to give up the time handicap ? Is the key phrase here "I Think" ... ?

The suspension mods are a sure and excellent step on the challenge as those will do more for you than horse power, at the Crest offshot. HP is always nice, as long as you know when to call on it and when to hold back.

Do you have nerves of steel and icy emotions (no fear) ? I get a feeling that Gary, just like myself, have experienced the thrills of seriously putting a bike down in the past. That goes a long way on building nerves of steel. Have you?

I will take you there, as many days in advance as you like - you can take as many practice runs as you can afford. Do bring plastic, you may need new tires after a few runs. Remember, you be going UPHILL all the way, FWD trying to break free, traction control computer trying to shut you down (mine dont have such a computer) .. I know it can be disabled, learn how, then you can test the track both ways .. I'm not sure if the disable is for seconds or for the duration of the run .. see? I'm even trying to help you win.

Traction disable: FSM 5E2-5, "PCM OVERRIDE", "PS24

Something tells me that you can now give Gary's mystical Vette a run for his money.

BTW, did i mention that you CANNOT have a copilot, you cannot run against another car .. .. legalize sort of stuff.

.

G.A.R.Y.
10-10-2007, 03:36 PM
On the 93 the traction controll can be disabled for 11 ignition cycles, so that takes care of that. Secondly the z06 is still mystical, as you put it, for the near future. Thirdly you cannot change the rules. A co-pilot was spoken about in an earlier thread and there was no objection at that time. Besides it will add about 200 pounds to the new suspension.

Is not a change in rules, it is a change to avoid legal ramifications on the driver - period.
