I AM A NEWBIE AND AM ALMOST EMBARRASED TO POST SUCH A STUPID QUESTION, BUT HERE GOES.

I HAVE A 1995 SEVILLE SLS - THE INSIDE REAR VIEW IS EXTREMLY LOOSE. AT HIGHWAY SPEED I CAN NOT SEE AT ALL. I HAVE TRIED TO LOOK FOR SOME WAY TO TIGHTEN IT WITH NO LUCK. I HATE TO TAKE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SUCH A SMALL THING. CAN ANYBODY PLEASE HELP??

I CAN WEDGE A PIECE OF CARDBOARD UNDER THE PLASTIC HOUSING AND GET IT TO REMAIN STILL FOR A WHILE. FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO TIGHTEN IT UP.

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

what piece of literally loose? the glass in the plastic housing, or the whole plastic unit itself??

IT IS THE WHOLE PLASTIC HOUSING ITSELF. IF I WEDGE A PIECE OF CARDBOARD BETWEEN THE PLASTIC AND THE GLASS IT STOPS THE SHAKING.

so the back of the mirror, is it a ball and socket type connection? there might be a screw somewhere there...however, that socket in there is usually a soft plastic/rubber, which can wear out....has this just started? do you have a big system in it?

THE ACTUAL MIRROR PART COMPLETE WITH THE BALL AND SOCKET IS SOLID AS CAN BE. THE ENTIRE UNIT IS SHAKING AS ONE PIECE. WHEN I SECURE THE WHOLE UNIT WITH MY HAND OR WITH A PIECE OF CARDBOARD AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD GLASS IT STAYS MOTIONLESS. THE UNDERSIDE OF THE PLASTIC HOUSING HAS A ROUND HOLE IN THE CENTER AND TWO RECTANGULAR SLITS ON EACH SIDE. I CAN SEE THE WINDSIELD THROUGHT THE SLITS BUT NOTHING IN THE ROUND HOLE. I WOULD EXPECT A TIGHTENING SCREW OF SOME TYPE TO BE IN THE CENTER, BUT I CAN SEE NOTHING IN IT. I THOGHT MAYBE AN ALLEN SET SCREW OR SOMETHING. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW IT ATTACHES TO THE WINDSHIELD ITSELF. THAT SEEMS TO BE THE WHOLE PROBLEM. OH YEA, IT IS THE TYPE OF MIRROR WITH THE ELECTRONIC DIMMING AND COMPASS FEATURES. I IMAGINE THAT IT IS A HIGH DOLLAR REPLACEMENT. THANKS FOR THE ATTENTION. IT IS REALLY ANNOYING!!

the mirror either glues to the glass, or it slides into a bracket that is glued onto the windshield...it may need new glue...

It's the adhesive. I had my rear view fall off on one of my cars years ago. Sometimes its due to extreme heat that melts the adhesive. I bet the dealership would fix it easily, if not for free.
