Our new building forces me into a glass-fronted office one third the size of my 'realm' at the old building. The back wall is glass also overlooking a giant, open atrium. Unfortunately, any noise from the halls or surrounding cubes funnels into my office and seems to ricochet off that back wall at a higher decibel level.

You haven't lived until experiencing the sounds of some miscreant clipping his nails or factless political discourse right outside one's door. Because I'm known to hold strong political as well as automotive convictions, someone will occasionally speak loudly to their stablemate(s) in counterpoint to my prevailing beliefs. I'm not at liberty to whack them about the head and neck with a telephone book, no matter how tempting, but a blistering assault using my "police" voice generally forces them to beat hasty retreats to their terminals and into blessed silence.
